Meet Cooper! Our Weekly Kiddo.

After a brief hiatus last week, I’m pleased to say: we’re baaaaaack! Aw yeah, it’s Weekly Kiddo, everyone’s favorite cutie showcase. I’m just going to jump right in to this one. You may have picked up by now that one of my favorite bloggers out there is Danielle, of Kitschy Digitals. She’s crafty, she’s cool, she’s creative, she collects Blythe dollies (yay!)…..and she’s an awesome mommy to two super cute boys, Cooper and Campbell. This week, we’ve got our eye on Super Cooper—her spunky 6 year old. Look at this lil fella! I’d like to point out that Danielle took all these beautiful photos! This is one stylish family….

Ahhh! So cute! I love how proper this is, yet still looks so comfy. The vest and tie are from Etsy seller Dandy Social Club.

Crazy cool personalized bowling shirt from here. (this boy’s legit, people!)
Hat by Knuckleheads, from Modern Moppet.

I love these excellent graphic shirts from Smafolk at ittikid.com SO GOOD, eh?
(Campbell his cutie pie lil sibling is crashing the next few pix! He clearly takes after his big brother and we’ll be showing him off at another time!)

This style is straight up TARGET, yo. I love affordable cuteness like this!
Coop’s shirt is Shaun White for Target, which is a great brand for lil dudes.

Jacket from Target, Shoes by Converse on Zappos.com.

Once again, this awesome race car graphic shirt is from Smafolk at ittikid.com

Did you check out that smile on this boy? What a sweetie! Cooper is way into playing his DSLite and is a champ at the Xbox. He loves to play soccer but is also a really great reader….but more than anything he loves ice-cream! His mama tells us that he recently watched E.T. for the first time and loved it. cooper is a sensitive little lad and got a bit teary when E.T. got sick  (me too Cooper!) but he loved it when they rode their bikes in the sky! Aw, Cooper you are one awesomely cute little dude! We luv ya!

Hey! do you have a stylish little boy or girl you’d like us to feature? Send ’em our way! You can find out all the deets over HERE.

Paper Airplanes

Dottie’s Kraft Corner is breaking it down today with one of the simplest and most delightful crafts that every kid worth their salt has made:

Paper airplanes!

The best part about creating paper airplanes is that this “craft” wouldn’t cost you a dime. No expensive trip to the art or craft store. Almost everyone has a piece of paper. Imagine taking a fussy child and turning a scrap of paper wrangled from your purse into a moment of sheer fancy for your little one.  And for you. I’m sure if you extended your arm a bit beyond your computer screen you would hit paper paydirt and with a few folds of paper be able to create something as lovely as this.

OK–maybe a bit more than just a few folds of paper…

I’m sure you could make a paper airplane with your eyes closed. There are many, many, many,  many different ways to make a paper airplane, but have you ever thought of making them in cool colors like this?

Or you can use printed paper for a bit more pop.

But there is something so beautiful about the classic white paper airplane, like this one.  This paper airplane is called “Jazz” and was designed by David Mitchell, featured in the paper airplane calendar.

I love the names of some of the different designs. Like this one which is called the sparrow.

Or why don’t you just take a moment to let your hands take the paper and let your hands remember how to effortlessly turn it into an airplane. You’ll be surprised at how good it feels to make one.

When was the last time you made a paper airplane? Hopefully you’ll say today.

Widdle Change of Pace.

We interrupt today’s usual Widdle Wednesday broadcast! I confess…life is getting ahead of me and so instead of throwing together a lack luster post, I thought this would be a great time to get caught up on a few things I’ve been meaning to ask you guys. First of all, how is everybody doing? (that’s not one of the questions, by the way, I’m just socializin’ with ya.) Life has been busy busy busy around Camp Kiddo, lemme tell you! Major thanks to my girl Dottie for holding down the fort while I was cavorting about down south (and stressin’ about being buried under work!). I just got back from a weekend in LA where Wolfie and I attended a “Cutest Kid” Modeling competition hosted by mega popular British clothing company NEXT DIRECT. “What what what??” Yesiree! I said modeling competition. I had never entered him in something like this before, but people always tell me Wolfie has a unique look—and the winner received a $100K college scholarship so that seemed to good too be true! Amazingly Wolfie was one of the Top 50 chosen (out of 5,000 kids). We were flown to LA for a fun-filled weekend at Universal studios, complete with a photoshoot, hip hop dance class (hah!) and private tour of Universal. Kind of bananas folks. Alas, Wolfie didn’t win, but we had an awesome time. And Wolfie was truly AMAZING. A little gentleman and so enthusiastic about everything. He really blossomed and his photos turned out so cute. We met a ton of great people and just had a blast!

HAH! That’s the lad in hair and makeup. OK. No makeup. But they put product on his hair to make it a lil more manageable. I was dying…

So the second thing I wanted to chat with you about is……YOU! I’m looking for photos of our mommy readers for a little tribute project. Won’t you please send me a picture of yourself?? It can be any photo of you that you love (somewhat recent, please). Our readers rock, so let’s show the world what a cool/fun/cute mommy looks like!! Submit photos by May 5 (next Wednesday) to Alix [at] modernkiddo [dot] com! YAY!

And finally…I have one last request. Your opinions really matter to us, and we kind of want to know how you think we’re doing! So I would loooove it if you would take just a few minutes to take our Modern Kiddo survey. I pinkie swear this is short and sweet (and mostly multiple choice). This is your chance to give us a little feedback. Tell us what you love, what you could do without and what you want more of! Your answers are totally private so be honest! To take the survey

You are THEE BEST, my lovely readers.

Vintage Fabric Restyled by Baby Bean

I love vintage fabric.

I particularly love a good dress made out of vintage fabric.

And when it happens to be made for a little girl–well, let’s just say, it is a veritable trifecta of awesomeness. Like these dresses from Baby Bean Wear.

This plucky little company hails from the grand state of Texas and is the brainchild of Christine Visneau, who studied Fashion Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology and draws her inspiration from her two little girls who give her many ideas about style, comfort, durability and fit.  Each collection is crafted from and inspired by vintage fabrics. Each garment is handmade and truly one-of-a-kind.

Oh, and  are theyAMAZINGLY BUTTON KOOT!

Like these little cutie patooties!

Oh what is the charm of a little rose print couple with a bit of lace?

I just can’t stand it. This yellow one is killing me!

These little rompers for girls made of vinntage fabric are killing me.  I particularly love the blue roses.

I know, right? So stinky adorable.

Oh, can’t you just see this on a little girl in the summer strolling around the backyard running away from the gardening hose?  So yummy.  And we all need a little yummy in our lives, right?

Freakin’ for Batikin’ with Hiho for Kids

I remember batik from my middle school art class.

I think it involved wax and color and a lot of mess. And some weird pattern that involved a whole lot of tie dye and looked very very home-ec gone so very very wrong.

Later in my life and a trip to Fiji changed my perspective on batik and now whenever I see it, I think of the South Pacific and beautiful intricate fabric that has a lovely island feel.  But I wouldn’t have immediately thought kid’s clothing until I saw Hiho Batiks and their amazing line of kids clothes featuring modern and fun batik patterns on t-shirts, onesies and girls dresses.

Andy Warhol and her own childhood were the merged inspiration for Hiho founder,  Julia Silver Gordon to start her batik empire.   Julia started almost 15 years ago with a single boutique in Boulder, Colorado that catered primarily to the music business, as she created one-of-a-kind designs for mega rockers such as Widespread Panic, Carlos Santana and Ween.

I love these great t-shirts for boys. So colorful and wearable too.

And the onesies really are killer!

I particularly love the girly heart shirt. And clearly it has the presidential stamp of approval.

But I really dig the little dresses made of comfy t-shirt fabric. Yum!

And get a load of this–Hiho Batik also does kid’s parties, which is almost as cool as the rented bouncy house, but wow! what a different and great craft for a party.
