My Poppet’s Perfect Pad

Our girl Pilgrim hipped us to her friend, Cintia who has the most charming online store, My Poppet and blog. Miss Cinti dropped us a line the other day and can I just say I wish I could hang out with her in Australia because I want to get to know the brilliant mind that created one of the most charming cozy posy little rooms for her girlie, Emma.

Come take a look…

I love this little detail of using the bike baskets to hold the changing station goodies.  It reminds me of Alix’s bachelor pad in the mission where she used vintage bike baskets with daisies on ’em to hold her scarves and what not in her room. Great minds think alike, Cinti!

That crib is a work of art! And can we talk about the wonderfulness of that mobile? Which looks like it was made with the scraps from that spectacular quilt. Well done, Cintia!

But what really blew me away was this rug made from felted wool sweaters she collected.  Friends, you know my obsession with upcycling sweaters to begin with. And when I saw this–well I nearly plotzed with joy.

I asked Cintia about it and here is what she said…

“It took me 2 months to make and its all hand stitched together I don’t know how many sweaters exactly but probably the equivalent of about 16-18 and also some pieces of woolen blanket.
Some of the pieces were remnants from my other projects that I make with old sweaters (like my owls)

I was inspired due to necessity I suppose. I wanted a really nice colorful rug made out of a natural fibre/wool, but everything that was vaugely attractive was either mega expensive or horribly acrylic. I can’t remember the exact reasons for hexagons, I just like how the shapes interlock together and it was a little play on a hexagon quilt, but on a large scale. I always have tons of materials/textiles/fabrics lying around, so when inspiration strikes I usually start on the project immediately.”

I love that rug, it’s my second favorite item in the room. The first being Miss Emma of course! What a cutie she is! Future Weekly Kiddo perchance?

Thanks so much for sharing Emma’s nursery with us Cintia and I love your shop, My Poppet.  What wonderful goodies you have there!  Definitely worth a looksie to say the least.

Vintage Bookshelf :: The Pocket Book.

I love this little kid’s book. Such a cute idea for a story, but I mostly love how fabulously smug each kid is: “You say you’ve got a pocket? Oh yeah?? Well I’ve got THREE pockets!” Take a look.

I’m sure there’s a bad joke to be made about the slightly creepy dad and his abundance of pockets (never mind the lollipops) but lets pretend to view this with innocent eyes, mmmkay??

Real Life :: A Trip to the Farmer’s Market

It’s been raining. Raining cats and dogs. We’re talking torrential downpour. But yesterday? We had sunshine! Glorious, warmth on my face sunshine! I hear it won’t last, but it just put us all in a much better mood. It had me dreaming of summer and yummy fruits. One of our favorite things to do is take a trip to the farmer’s market.

The colors, the smells, I love it all! And the taste of fresh, organic produce is like no other.

Now I have to confess, Wolfie may be the world’s biggest sweetie….but he’s also the world’s pickiest eater!! I never thought I would have a finicky child but there you go. Our tactic is to try and expose him to as much as possible. He may not eat it, but at least he is familiar with the various fruits and veggies.

Wolfie loves to run around and help us collect everything we need. (And yes, he does like grapes! Halleyloo!)

I loooooove this beautiful spring mix with edible flowers. It’s soooo pretty. The first time Wolfie saw edible flowers his mind was blown! He wasn’t into the slightly peppery taste, but he tried a little nibble none-the-less.

Rainbow chard is one of my favorites.

If you have a younger child, it’s fun to do a mini scavenger hunt at the Farmer’s Market. Ask your kiddo to find an orange fruit. Or a yellow vegetable.  How about a purple fruit or vegetable with an interesting shape.  Or a red food you’ve never tasted before! Try it and see what it tastes like! (Yeah, Wolfie wasn’t buying that one. “I found a radish!” “Do you want to try it?” “No thank you mama!” all chipper. Harumph. Foiled again…)

Most Farmer’s Markets offer little samples of all the fruits which can be really fun for kids. We love to try all the different apples or peaches and compare! Delicate raspberries are one of my faves. Greg is a blueberry man!

Mmmm. This *says* ORANGE JUICE, but really? It was fresh-squeezed BLOOD ORANGE JUICE. Oh man, it was sooo tasty!

Beyond the fruits there are so many other tasty treats to try. Our Farmer’s Market has powder sugary funnel cakes, crepes, curries and falafels…and loads of baked goods. We also love to swing by the flower booth and select something bright and sunny for the house.

Do you have a great Farmer’s Market in your town? Or do you have your own garden?? (Even better!) I can’t wait for spring to reeeeeally come. Winter was cozy and all but I’m ready for some full blown SUN ACTION!

Besty of Etsy: Matte Stephens.

Matte Stephens, you have my heart.

Because my heart thinks there is nothing more charming than a scuba diving gent with an eyepatch and pipe trying to charm a bouffant-wearing mermaid with a strategically place trout.

J’adore!

Oh and then, there is THIS. Every cat should wear a monocle and bow tie. And carry an nice brolly too.

And speaking of umbrellas…

Glasses on toast? OK–and let’s add some to the bacon.  What’s so funny, Senor sausage?

I love your palette of muted greens and oranges.  They are worth decorating a whole nursery around.  Anyone?

Thanks for making my day, Matte! I hope he made yours too.
