It’s the return of the Modern Kiddo Little Book Report Club! We all loved Are You There God, It’s Me, Margaret and chatted about it at great length.
I’m pleased to announce our next book will be From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. This is one of Alix’s favorite childhood books and I’m so excited to read it! It’s about a brother and sister who run away from home and hide in the Metroplitan Museum of Art. Hello, how on EARTH did I NOT read this brilliant sounding book!
You can pick up your own copy of From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler here, download it to your Kindle here, or get a copy from Etsy seller, Enchanted Book Room over here!
I can’t WAIT to read it! Have you read it? Are you in??
oh! this was one of my very favorites!
i had so many fantasies of running away to live in a museum.
and may have kept a packed duffle under my bed;)
love this!! xo
Yay! I’m so excited you are into rereading this book with us! I’m so excited for it!
Oh, you KNOW I am in!!!!
Aw yeah baby!!!!!
i have never read it i am sooo in
oh it’s soooo good!!!! yay!
I just started reading this out loud to my fourth-graders last week! Aside from the understandable questions that arise from a book set in the *ahem* “olden times,” they love it! I’m now terrified of ever taking them on another museum field trip again!
On a side note, the new book by Brian Selznik (he wrote “The Invention of Hugo Cabret”) gives a HUGE hat-tip to this book. It’s called “Wonderstruck” – I haven’t finished it yet, but so far it’s breathtaking!
Oooh really?? (re; Selznik) I’ll have to give it a look.
Yes this book is so awesome, and its true…..writers back in the day were a little less concerned with being “correct” about things. haha. YAY for reading it to the kids!
Oh my goodness how did I not read this either??? I’m gettin my paws on it pronto!
You MUST read it!!!! It’s really REAAAAALLY good.
wowowow!!! This is one of my very very favorite books from childhood! I’m in!
Of course its one of your faves, you awesome chick!
YAY! I was looking for a reason to join the local library, and this is IT.
And so excited to hear Brian Selznick has a new book!
You MUST read it! You’ll love it lady!!
And i remember little Alexandra ‘devouring’ this book, walking around the UCSC campus with book under her arm!!
aw….well you and dad totally encourage my love of reading!! Trips to the Bookshop Santa Cruz are one of my favorite memories!
I can’t tell you how many times I read this book as a kid. I have it pinned on Pinterest on my Favorite Children’s Books board: http://pinterest.com/lilikoilane/favorite-children-s-books/
