Holidazed: Cool Gifts for Kids–Green Toys Inc.

Well, it’s that time of year again… The year where we are constantly hustling to find the right gift to garner the most hugs and kisses from little ones. So, here at Modern Kiddo, we are going to spend the next month coming up with cool toys for all the girls & boys.  We promise to offer you different, fun gifties for different, fun ages and at different, fun price that we think no little kiddo would mind finding under the Christmas tree or Hanukkah bush.

We’ll start it off a great product that I’ve personally fallen in love with for the Peach.  I was determined to find a tea set for the Peach but almost all of the ones I found were from China and I didn’t want my little girlie to be sucking on the equivalent of a lead pipe. Insert the wonderful tea set I found from SF-based company Green Toys Inc.  And of course this was just the tip of the iceberg.  All of their products are BPA-free and made from safe recycled milk jugs. And bonus: the stuff is totally fun too!

I love this tool set!  It makes me want to build something right now!

These jumpropes are the perfect stocking stuffer.

The Peach is going through a firetruck/garbage truck phase right now, so these trucks would be perfect for her.

Oh, and I think these boats would be a welcome addition to any kiddo’s bathtime.

And the price point for these green goodies is pretty decent–$25-30, so not a bank breaker and you get a high quality eco-friendly toy! Go Green Toys, Inc!

Besty of Etsy–Elise Hooper

OK, I have a little confession to make.  I love holiday focused kiddo clothes. I just can’t help it.  Call it totally pandering to the holiday gods to get some extra candy/pumpkin pie/gelt/candy, but I can’t help myself. Particularly if it’s rather clever and not so obvious.  Like this darling jumper from Etsy seller, Elise Hooper Designs that Alix sent me a link to.  I must admit it does involve two of my favorite things in the whole wide world–ric-rac and a jumper. But with that sweet little Halloweeny spider, well, it had me at ric-rac.

And then I saw her other pieces. Uh oh… I was in trouble.

Simple design plus knock out stunning fabric equals magic in the hands of the right seamstress.

And Elise Hooper has that magic.  Like with this wee placket.  And owls. Oh, for the love of the owls! Eek!

And this little bit of fall festivity is killing me.  I have such a weak spot for acorns and maple leaves.  Is this dress not perfect for Thanksgiving dinner? Oh, perfection.

Back to School with Elias & Grace

Finally San Francisco took a look at its calendar and realized it is summer. And cranked the heat up. Into the nineties.  The NINETIES, people. Which is just lovely, but not when I’m seeing all of these yummy plaids, and layers and scarfs and dreaming of sharpened pencils and new lunchboxes. And the delicious new Fall clothing line from Elias & Grace.

Now, I’m new to this wonderful company, but it seems all sorts of fancy pants people have been shopping there for years finding all sorts of goodies for their kiddos. Like Jude Law, Mrs. Jamie Oliver, and Kate Moss. But hey, better late than never because hoo boy, they got quite a load of grand clothes for fall.

For boys.

And for girls.

And oh dear. They’ve got a baby line.  Drat it!

Good inspiration, yes?

My Rocking Wardrobe rocks.

I must admit that after being swamped by sci-fi wackiness for the past week, I was craving a little change of palette if you will–from all the space age/vampire/zombie/superhero/steampunk sassiness of Comic-Con.  Something the exact opposite.  I needed a large dose of truly girly girliness. Bring on the pretty flowers, the pink, the bows, the ruffles, the lace.

Bring on My Rocking Wardrobe. Now this wonderful site does carry a great selection of boys clothes as well as some sweet pieces for women too. But their collection of goodies for little girls is just breathtakingly darling.

As you can see below. Apple pockets on leggings with red polkadot cuffs? Or a perfect creamy puff-sleeved, peter pan collared bit of perfection with pig tails? Either way, my heart just smiled.

Even the socks are button cute. Little red riding hood and bunnies. Does it get any cuter?

Have you noticed the apron pinafore dress has returned with a vengeance this season?  But add gingham and ruffles and hearts on mine please.

You didn’t think a little doe could get any cuter, but then you add pink polka dots and a ruffle. Oh, and why not add a gingham waistband and sweet rose filled apron to a red skirt.  Just ignore that exploding sound–it’s only my head.  Exploding with cuteness that is!

Let’s take a closer look at those leggings shall we? I just found a new thing to obsess over. Strawberry leggings.

Ahh! This was just what the doctor ordered for me. And of course hugging and kissing the Peach.  Is there anything better than grabbing your little ones after being away and smelling their sun warmed hair and hearing them say mama mama mama mama? Nope there isn’t.

I’m so glad to be back to regular posting after a week away. Three cheers for Alix for holding down the fort with some amazing posts and her normal joie de vivre that I’m so very lucky to bask in on a daily basis.  I love ya to bits, Miss Alix. And gentle readers–all of you–it is such an honor to write for you all and thank you for your patience with me as I try to balance this jam-packed albeit lovely little life of mine and continuing to come back to our little nook of the Web.

The Perfection of POLKA

Waiter, I’ll have what they are having!

I know I usually don’t start a post off with the designers, but c’mon these ladies look like they are having a blast. And who wouldn’t when the are creating such joyous clothes as these?

I’m mean really! I want to shrink myself to fit into these goodies! But how could I not love them for starting a clothing line called Polka (as in DOT).  And of course they hail from the land of Pilgrim–Australia, so that just makes them even more super spectacular in my little ole book.

Get a load of this bucket of cuteness for boys:

Oh and they do clothes for babies too. Really really stinky cute stuff for babies. Like  hide yer wallet cute. The knee patch cuteness of it all.

I know, right?

The sassiness that comes out of the minds of Jo and Marika, the two ladies above, who are the masterminds behind Polka is just amazing.

In their own words:

“Our Polka took off like a Rocket and we’ve been chasing it ever since! We design what we like, which is a lot of things really! It’s no wonder each collection doesn’t end up looking like a dog’s breakfast (apologies to overseas readers – if that is one of those kooky Australian sayings?). We are Australian – though Jo is from Canada originally, and we kind of wish we were Danish, and perhaps should have be living in the 60’s or 70’s. We are lovers of  Tokyo & Scandinavian street fashion, and both vintage retro and modern futuristic. Bohemian Folk & Blacks and Brights. Pattern & Prints are king, and pastels are passé. We love kids and their boundless energy, which is why their fashions are just so much fun.”

Alix, are these are new best Aussie friends? After Pilgrim, of course! I can be the Dot to their polka!  Tee hee!
