Merry Kitschmas! My Vintage Ornament Collection

I loooove vintage ornaments. I love the Shiny Brites. I love little wooden figurines. I love the pretty glass ornaments from Germany.  I love metallic birds with real feather tails. BUT I also love these playful little guys. Over the years I’ve amassed a fun collection of little kitschy felted friends that are just TOO cute! I  have to say, I don’t know much about them. I’m guessing they are from the late 60s, early 70s….but I’m not positive. What I do know is that most are from Japan. And ALL are adorable. They remind me very much of the Rankin/Bass animated holiday specials, with their big round eyes. I don’t put them on our main tree anymore (because there are too many of them and I like our other ornaments too!), but awhile back I got this little mini silver tree and think they fit on here perfectly!

A little small tree like this is a GREAT idea for kiddos, because they can “be in charge” of the decor. Pick ornaments made of things like felt, wood, sequins, yarn (I’ve seen some really cute ones at Target!)  and you don’t have to worry about your little one accidentally breaking anything as they decorate away!

Do you have any special or favorite ornaments?

  1. That plaid one… I’M OFFICIALLY DYING OVER IT! And that fox is so sweet. With a little scarfie? Too cute for words!

But that little soldier with the trumpet? AND THAT HAIR?!?! Just like a little surfer boy! They look like animagic from Rankin Bass!

    1. I know, I had never seen most of them either! I wish I knew more about them….like, were they just cheapie little drug store ornaments? Were they a “thing” that people collected?? The quality is kind of nice….some better than others. The little eyes are the cutest!

  2. I love them all! We have many ornaments like these but none the exact same…there are so many out there to collect I think I may have to increase the number of trees I have in the house next year to justify purchasing any more though…haha.

    1. hahaha i know right?? Why do you think I have that little tree! I love them. I bet we have totally different ones, I have never found the same one twice, it’s kind of cool. I have no idea how many of them are out there!

  3. My mom got my sister an I our own tiny plastic christmas tree for our room. We LOVED it. We had our own box of ornaments (mostly old non breakables – hey I wonder where those are at – be they are all vintage and groovy) we thought we were SO grown up having our own tree. I asked my mom about it – she said it was just to keep us away from her tree with her lovely breakable things!
