The Worm stands alone: New Richard Scarry book!

OMG! New Richard Scarry book!

Admit it, you love LowlyWorm best. Richard Scarry of course has written some of the most charming children’s books every, but when that darling Lowly Worm drove his apple car into lives, well, things just became a whole lot sweeter.

Huckle Cat lucked out with his awesome friend, Lowly, who is always there and ready for some apple riding fun! And it’s about time he got his own book.  The wonderful Richard Scarry unfortunately died in 1994, but his son found under his drawing table several gray cardboard portfolios  containing the beginnings of a book about Mr. Worm.

And yeah, it is AWESOME!

Of course Lowly shows kiddos how to have good manners.

What is not to love here!

Would you check out the travel awesomeness!  That submarine is divine.

And the best part is that it hits the books stores today! Thanks HarperCollins on all of this cuteness today!

Are you a Richard Scarry fan?

Hello everyone, it’s Ashley here with another edition of Widdle Wednesdays. Last week I shared some fun picks for little dudes, so today I have something for the liddle ladies. I’m not a “pink pink pink” girlie, so the vibe I was going for was more modern sweetness. Take a look!

tasty bites // mmmm sriracha fries!

 photo sricha_fries.jpg

We love simple, especially when it comes to food. However, to do something simple, does not always mean it’s just a thrown together creation. There are rules, folks. So stick to em’, if you want to end up on top. Take these fries, for example. Sure, you could just grab a bag from the store. Or if you are slightly more ambitious, grab a bag of taters, and get to cutting. Either way, most folks would just toss those suckers straight into a bubbling pot of oil, and wait for the magic to happen. But, we say no! This is not the way. Not that we don’t appreciate a fried treat every once in a while, it’s just that there are better ways, friends. Healthier ways. Tastier ways. Simpler ways, to get tasty frites. Please allow us to show you the way. Did we mention that they are covered in salty, spicy sriracha-flavored, goodness?! OH YES. You can thank us later.

sriracha fries

    • 5-6 medium russet potatoes, cut into fries
    • 2 tablespoons sriracha
    • 2 tablespoons grapeseed oil
    • sriracha salt (recipe here)

Place potatoes in large bowl and cover with cool water.  Let sit for 30 minutes, dump water and cover again.  Let sit for another 30 minutes.* *This step removes the starch and allows the fries to get crispy in the oven.

Dump water and towel dry potatoes.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Combine oil and sriracha. Toss with fries.

Place on two large baking sheets in a single layer.  Sprinkle with sriracha salt. Place fries in oven and bake for fifteen minutes.  Using tongs, move fries around so they can bake evenly.  Return to oven.  Check on them again after 10 minutes.  Continue process until fries are golden brown, crispy and cooked through.  Remove from oven and let cool slightly.  Enjoy!

Retro Round Up :: Vintage Goodies

What a whirlwind weekend! I did a quick jaunt to Boulder to visit my Mom and brothers who also flew out.  No grandchildren–just the kids and we had the most marvelous time!  But how could I not spend a bit of time searching for some goodies to share with you? Enjoy!

Hmmm, Clown shoes or shoes made of clowns? You decide!

1, 2, buckle my shoe!

The orange racing stripe makes this little jacket perfection in my book.

Check out this mod madness of a sweater dress.

For your busy bee a great busy bee card game!

I have such a special place for trains on kiddo clothing. Sigh!

Check out these two terrific turtles!

I’m dying over this Retro Sears cuteness!

This majorette outfit is MAJOR!

No one could be crabby wearing this gem!

This book is truly wonderful.  I love my copy!  Genius party ideas for kiddos.

Happy Monday, folks!

Oh Arthur // Do the Retro Cha Cha

OK, I admit it. I watched the Dancing with the Stars opener the other night. I haven’t watched it in ages (I’m more a So You Think You Can Dance gal) but I have to admit it was pretty fun! Which reminded me of these photos I stumbled upon a while back. Looooong before tans, bedazzled bodysuits and feathered head pieces were a glimmer in Bruno and Carrie Ann Inanba’s eyes, there was Arthur Murray. Arthur Murray’s famous chain of dance studios were all the rage back in the 1950s. The country was really embracing “exotic cultures” and Latin influenced music extremely popular. Everyone was dying to learn how to cha cha or mambo and that, of course, meant DANCE CLASSES baby!

Check out these amazing photos from the Arthur Murray Dance Studio from 1958-1962. “A beguiling mixture of awkwardness and grace.” Oh yes!
