The 1888 Hotel in Sydney, Australia is the world’s first “instagram hotel”. The name is an homage to 1888, the year Kodak launched their first camera, but the hotel is decidedly modern with special “selfie” areas and free rooms to people with 10,000 followers or more. Mica Angela Hendricks is a wonderful illustrator. She has a very curious and creative 4-year old daughter with whom she started the most amazing collaboration. Mica begins a drawing and her daughter finishes it. The results are amazing. Read all about it here.

8. SUPER CREEPY UNDERGROUND HOME

WHOA. Soooooo this is insane. Back in the 1970s an eccentric millionaire decided to build an underground bunker “just in case” of nuclear attack. Except his bunker was the perfect recreation of a 1970s suburban home, complete with faux yard and lights that can be set to “sunrise” “day,” “dusk” and “night”. Of course the night setting comes complete with twinkling stars. Is it cool or totally creepy? Check it out and decide for yourself.

Elsie and Emma from A Beautiful Mess are always fabulously creative. I thought this cocktail they made for Emma’s bachelorette party was SO pretty—and sounded delicious. It’s basically prosecco and grapefruit juice, with an edible glitter rim.

I also loved these simple paper flowers. Aren’t they terrific? And congratulations to Emma and her fella Trey! It looked like a beautiful day.

If you follow me on instagram (@galexina) then you know I love seeing vintage cars around the city, and I always snap pics of them whenever I spy them. Lisa Congden posted these photos from her friend Christopher Hall who has been photographing vintage cars he finds sitting in front of San Francisco and East Bay buildings. My kinda guy!

Also, a big CONGRATULATIONS to the beautiful Lisa and her lovely lady Clay! The two were just married last weekend and the ceremony looked so gorgeous!

This video is pretty incredible —and rather moving. A well-known sketch artist drew women based on their descriptions of themselves. The results were so thought provoking.

When you have kiddos it’s easy to put your relationship on the back burner (life gets consumed with diapers and feedings and consoling little ones and just all around silly play time). Dottie shared this fun link with me. The New York Times blog “The City Room” has been holding a “Kids Draw the News” contest, where they ask children to draw the latest headlines. It’s SO charming and sweet. I would have been allll over this when I was a kiddo! These photos were for a story about a runaway zebra.  See more here.

This cracked me up. A family took a group portrait that was special to them….and within a year or so, the son got a divorced. His mom wanted to remove the ex-wife from the photo (apparently it wasn’t a pleasant divorce) and had someone do some photoshop wizardry on the pic. Instead of holding the arm of the ex-wife, she’s holding a beer! HAH! Read about it here.

I think this British commercial with Audrey Hepburn is extremely charming. It’s getting mixed reviews (using her likeness when she isn’t alive etc) but her sons said she adored chocolate and they though she would have approved of it (as did they, since they are in charge of her estate). I think it’s rather tastefully done! (I like it so much more than that Audrey GAP ad from years back.)
