MK Giveaway: MB Art Studio

I’m particularly excited about this great giveaway because  It is for the a ceramic plaque from artist Mary Burrows. I love ceramic art and words.  So, how could I not fall head over heels for Mary Burrows’ work? I think you will too. But first let’s chat about Mary from her own words:

MB Art Studios is the creative work of me (Mary Burrows), an artist residing with my family in Reno, Nevada.  I discovered this creative path in 2004, when I was a stay-at-home mom dabbling with watercolors and needle felting…all due to my son attending a waldorf preschool.  Next thing I knew I was creating with clay and my mother-in-law gave me her kiln.  I was hooked and opened up my world to the beauty of art after having worked in the corporate world for more than 15 years.

MB Art Studios is dedicated to bringing beauty into peoples’ lives.  I create my own unique pottery, hold fine art classes for little people to work their magic, and also capture impressions of little ones hands and feet in clay.

Each ceramic piece that I create is one-of-a-kind and hand built in my studio with earthenware or stoneware clay.  My work is influenced by my love of simplicity and the beauty and power of the written word.  I keep my eyes wide open all the time for inspiration.”

Clearly she’s finding some good inspiration out there like there.

I love these little ceramic birdie ornaments.  The mind reels with the possibility of it all!

This is a lady, I’d like to get to know better. But someone will be able to through her gorgeous work.  Like what we are giving away today–XXX

Giveaway: Oh Hello Dear!

Ooowee! We’ve got a particularly delicious giveaway this week, friends!  Thanks to Etsy gal about town, Carolyne Tillery, we are giving away five of her stunning prints from her Etsy shop, Oh, Hello Dear, at value of $60.

Who is this lovely lady behind the equally lovely art?  Well, growing up,  young Carolyne loved to read vintage children literature, not just for the stories, but for the delightful illustrations of children and animals.   She would spend her afternoons  just staring at the illustrations of Carolyne Haywood, Mary Blair, Hilary Knight, and Gyo Fujikawa to name just a few.  In her spare time, she frequently carried around her favorite children books and a sketch pad so she could sketch from the illustrations. Her beloved mama even held daily “observation time,” where she set aside an hour every day for her and her dear daughter to do nothing but observe and draw from one of their favorite illustrators.   Note to self for future fun with the Peach.  So, it should be no surprise to anyone that Carolyne wanted to grow up and illustrate children’s literature.

Sweet Carolyne went to college and got a Bachelors in Art History (so did I!)  in order to combine her love of art with her obsession with history and dates.  However, she didn’t really draw much then.  Our girl sort of hit a block where she no longer wanted to copy her favorite illustrators, instead, she wanted to be her own illustrator/person!

Fast forward a few years or so, things began to change for our young artistic heroine.  After the birth of her daughter almost three years ago, her love for vintage stories was rekindled as she read her favorite stories and shared their charming illustrations with her wee lass.   It rekindled in Carolyne a new desire to illustrate pictures that would delight her sweet girl.

So, Carolyne spent lots of time practicing, and after her  son was born this past winter, it seemed to her that she finally found my niche andher own delicious and sweet style.

And, she decided to share her beautiful and oh so charming prints on Etsy, at her shop,  Oh Hello Dear.  Her favorite item in her shop is “Favorite Story” because it reminds me of my children.

I know right? Adorable.

Giveaway: Grace Hester Designs Poster!

**Update 10/17/10: congrats Jenny Rebecca who is the winner of this contest. Post announcing winner is here.  Thanks for your interest!***

Hurrah! Hurrah! We have a humdinger of a grand giveaway for you, my friends!

A gorgeous post from Grace Hester Designs!  Our gal, Grace is kind enough to give away a customized “Print for a Little Reader” poster (11 X 14).  The giveaway winner can go with the titles shown or provide their own list for a personalized print for their own little boo.  Oh, how great is that–to do a personalized one! List out those books that you’ve read HUNDREDS of times until the edges are frayed and the binding hopelessly broken in.  Such a great childhood keepsake, if you ask me. And Grace will even let you pick out the colors so they’ll match your nursery to boot. Way to be a rockstar, Grace!

Grace was inspired by her sweet daughters’ current and all-time favourite reads and designed this poster that lists the titles in different typefaces. What a great way to encourage an appreciation for typography to our children.   All materials used are archival-safe. Print is made on archival-quality photographic paper with a lustre finish that really allows the vibrancy of the colors to show. The choice of materials also makes this a keepsake that can be passed down through the years.

Isn’t that poster just the dandiest?  Oh, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg of all the goodness that is Grace Hester. The artsy lady’s fabulous work has been feature all over the Web on Ohdeedoh, CoolMomPicks, and oodles of other places in the know.  Here is a wee sample of her other goodies she has available in her Etsy store. Prepare to be awestruck, folks.

I know right? Adorable.  Really, you should go check out Grace’s Etsy shop right now. I’ll wait…

OK, now how to get this wonderful one of a kind poster, you can:

  1. Leave a comment (natch) and tell us about your favorite children’s book!
  2. “Like” Grace Hester on Facebook (she’s so likeable anyway, so that shouldn’t be a problem!)
