Real Life :: Going to SXSW!

Well, my work is sending me to Austin tomorrow!  This is my first time going to Austin and I’m so so so excited! I’ve wanted to go for more than 10 years.

And it is for SXSW. Squee!  Fabulous music and fabulous conversations about tech and online tech innovations.  Yeah, I’m a total dork.

Fortunately as far as the food is concerned, CHOW created this terrific love letter to Austin with its most recent CHOW Tour.   I’m so excited to go to the food trucks there–I hope they are as good as Chairman Bao or the Waffle truck.

I probably won’t have much downtime, but what I have I’d love to use wisely, so I turn to you all–any suggestions? Any cool stores I should go to? Any great bars? I want to hear from you! Be sure to swing by this afternoon, I’ve got some more goodies to share!

  1. Miss Dottie, You are going to go MAD in Austin. It is sooo up your alley. I too had always wanted to go and finally made it there last year. I had the time of my life. Definitely check out the stores on South Congress and South 1st Street. Go have a cocktail at Hotel San Jose. That’s where we stayed, it was the coolest boutique hotel. I had this cool map of all the vintage stores and I’m going to see if I still have it when I get home tonight and get back w ya with more.

    1. Of course you’ve been there–and know all the best places to go Miss Jenny! I have been dying to go to the Hotel San Jose for ages. Nice idea!

And good call on the vintage places.

  2. PS.. Everyone chats about the food trucks on South Congress, but there’s also a trailor park with gobs of better food trucks (Including Torchys) on South 1st and South 1st has loads of cool vintage stores. More info to come. If it wasn’t soo darn hot there in the summer, I’d probably move there. 🙂

    1. Oh lady, I hear you! I’m a delicate flower and can’t deal with oppressive heat. And if I were younger I would totally be the Roller Derby group too. But I’m too much of a cream puff for that! Teehee!

  3. Awesome tacos go to Marias taco express on south Lamar. Check out the stitch lab on south 1st for some cool fabrics. For awesome pizza go to Homeslice on South Congress. You are going to love it here. If you need anything while you’re here please let me know.
