Paperflavor will take care of your writing needs–from brides to babies with tremendously high levels of cuteness to boot! Speaking of cute–it is a word that describes Paperflavor so well, that I apologize in advance for my overuse of the word cute. But seriously–would you look at what is in the giveaway. It’s like an explosion of cute. Seriously!

I sat down with Michelle over a nice cool virgin pomegranate lime rickey and chatted with her about all things cute. Because clearly this duo knows a thing or two about that word.

MK: What made you start your cute cute cute shop?

Pauline and Michelle: We had worked in tandem for years at a print and design firm in Los Angeles creating everything from DVD covers to law firm letterhead to retirement home flyers.  What really resonated with both of us was a mutual desire to have creative control over the final product, so the idea for a simple click n go design template-driven website was born. In a cheerful flurry, we created designs “for the lovebirds” “for the kiddos” and “for you!” including pretty wedding invitations, thank you cards, and supercute photo baby announcements.  Before we knew it, there was a high demand for our “flavorkids” characters to appear on t-shirts, tote bags, calendars, stationery, and baby onesies.  We uphold the mission of keeping things cute, producing unique designs on quality materials (as eco-friendly as possible!), and having fun at work together!

MK: What is your favorite item or stationary design in the shop right now?

Pauline & Michelle: The “I’m a ninja!” kiddos line is our most popular, and the latest addition is ninja’s sidekick pup, Sumo!  Sumo makes his kickin’ debut on tote bags, which we can’t look at without smiling.

MK: Hee hee! He is quite a little character!

MK: How did you come up with the name of your company?

Pauline & Michelle: One look at our “flavorkids” characters and you can tell we love junk food and sweets!  The “paper” is homage to our roots in stationery and traditional printing, while the “flavor” is our tasty twist on traditional paper goods.  Paperflavor means sweet stationery (and more!) made fresh daily.

Real Life :: Pixar Previews & Sunny Days

Summer is finally here in San Francisco and it’s going off with a bang! Sunshine! Hurray! We’ve been busy busy busy. Here’s a little bit of what we’ve been up to!

Wolfie started soccer and he really loves it! It’s not a proper team, it’s more of a soccerclinic/intro to playing the game. His favorite school yard game is kickball and that’s how he became obsessed with kicking the ball around—I gotta say he’s pretty good at it. He looks like a little European futbol player in his soccer uniform! I guess this makes me officially a soccer mom. Heh.

On the home front, I’ve been continuing to clean up the house which is a colossal process, lemme tell you. I’m hoping to have a garage sale and start taking pictures for my July online sale this week! In between it all, we did a little dog sitting and back-yard fence mending.

I’m making progress but really, it’s all still kind of a big fat colorful mess.

Earlier in the month we got a brand new fridge! It’s soooo awesome. Our old one was over 10 years old and leaked…I swear it looked like a crack house fridge, it was so awful. This new one? Holey moley….it’s amazing. I open it up and it’s like a freakin’ space ship!

Wolfie finally had his last day of school! I can’t believe my little first grader is going to be a big second grader!! He is a math whiz and it astounds me how quickly he can add double digit numbers in his head and multiply. I swear we never did that kind of stuff when I was in first grade. Reading and writing is more of a challenge for him, but he really loves books and he’s improved so much.

To celebrate the end of school, we celebrated in a most fantastic way. My friend Stephanie (who did the Flea Market sale with me) works at Pixar….and she got us in to a special Friends & Family preview of Cars 2!!!! Whoo hoo!

I’ve been to Pixar a few times (Steph invited Wolfie and I to a preview of Rattaouille and my friend Axel, who is a Pixar editor,  got me into a the last two Star War movies…I have generous pals!). Pixar is absolutely as cool as you think it’s gonna be. Wolfie was kinda excited….

In the lobby were these life size Luigi and Guido statues. So fun! Everywhere you turn is something cool—like a giant Woody and Buzz Lightyear made entirely out of Legos.

Awwww, my little doll. Hee.

The movie was SO much fun! I will say it is verrrry different from the first Cars movie. One of the things i loved about the original Cars was that there really weren’t any “bad guys,” it was more a McQueen learning life lessons. I thought it was great for little kiddos—in fact it was the very first movie that Wolfie saw in a movie theater! (I must brag, he was only  2 1/2 and sat through the entire thing spellbound! Yep, we are huge Pixar fans over here….) Cars 2 is much more action-packed (aka violent) as it’s a whole play on the James Bond, Mission Impossible movies. I think bigger kids will love it! But little ones might get a little freaked out. It’s loud (lots of explosions and shoot ’em up action). We still thought it was lots of fun and visually (of course) it’s incredible.

OH! And there is a Toy Story short before it that is really really (REALLY!) great! We felt so honored to be able to check it all out. Thanks so  much Miss Steph!! Afterwards Wolfie had a treat as we hit Rudy’s Fail Safe diner and he had pancakes for a late night supper. Hey, it was the first night of vacation so we bent the rules a little on bed time.

And finally, this weekend we had a really relaxing Father’s Day puttering around town….

Last Little League Game of the season! (crushing that a Bay Area team had to be the DODGERS!!!! Waaah…..for you non-Cali peeps, they are our big rivals!) I asked the guys to “look cool” and this is what they came up with, hahaha.

Ooooh Knitta Please! I spied some really cool guerrilla craft graffiti in Berkeley. So kewl.

We rounded out the day with Game Night. First we played Trouble (one of our all-time family faves!). I got my butt whupped….

Then we played Uno, another fave. We have a special Harry Potter deck that is really fun (esp for my little Potter fan!).

So there you have it. Yer all caught up. How was your weekend? Are you enjoying your summer? I sure hope so!

Yee Haw! It’s time for the Vintage Kiddo Retro Round Up

Hello friendo!

It’s Alix here today. Did ya’ll have a great Father’s Day? The weather here was bee-yoo-ti-ful! We had an early Little League game with Wolfie and then a leisurely brunch… so nice! Of course I still managed to squeeze in a little evening of e-thrifting to scare up some really fun goodies for you guys.

First up is this crazy cute little 4T smocked dressie. Can’t you totally see a little girl wearing this while running through the summer grass, blowin’ bubbles?? From the fine folks at babycomeback.

These wee little size 5 toddler sneaks are just too adorable. Great for kickin’ around the playground! From fun Etsy seller tinsel and wheat.

And these little grey ones? Oh sheesh, too awesome! From the super cute ladies over at pussycat vintage (they’re a size 6 1/2! the shoes, that is…).

Oooh mama, if you have a little girlie who wears a 4 or 5 you’re in luck! This mod sunflower dress is too good. From volenskavintage.

This sweet little strawberry shortcake dressie will keep yer little lady cool and stylish all summer long! From our girl Amanda, over at kyssa vintage. No tag but she estimates it’s about a 12 month or so!

I think paint by numbers rock and these would look so adorable in a kiddo bedroom! From  hellcat vintage

Aaaaaaay! This tee is the bomb and has Wolfie’s name written all over it! I can’t even tell you how much I love it! Great for a 5-8 year old. From the sassy pants duo at robot parade for kids.

Heather, Heather, Heather…where do you find it all? I loved the little red gingham top but then realized it was part of a shortie set. KA-yoot! Yep. From 3 Ring Circus Vintage. Size 6-9 month.

I think a cool jacket is a great basic for kiddos and this lightweight zippy number is perfect! From my buddy Jeannette at sweet shop vintage. For a dapper 18-24 months.

She also has this mega rad vintage alphabet blocks. They’re made out of a plasticky material and  would be great for spelling out kiddo names on a shelf! Again from sweet shop vintage.

“Hello? Hello? Yes, hi…. it’s time to wash your hair kiddo!” This bubble bath phone keeels me. From Etsy seller Kirbybeaz.

Ahhh, Health-Tex is a stand by here at Modern Kiddo. Bold colors and cute details, but never too precious! Love the lace detail on the top, but kids will appreciate the comfy cotton. From the lovely stephaniepress. For a 12 month old.

Buster Brown made super cool shoes back in the day, but they also had a fun clothing line (tres Health Tex, I must say!). This stripey goodness is a size 2T. From the groovy star friends on earth.

It’s not easy being green, but it’s sure easy being cute in this little thang! (badum- bum!) I’m loving this awesome romper from my girl, Alicia at Lishy Loo Vintage.

If you’ve been a Modern Kiddo reader for a while, then you know I love the storybook charm of Irmi lamps….and this one does not disappoint! The hat on the whale? Fuggetaboutit!! From my sassy gal, fuzzy mama.

OK, one of my many other vintage obsessions are the Paper Dresses made in the sixties. I loooooove this paper play romper! “Disposable fashions to fling in – then fling out!”  It is marked a child’s size 10-12, but vintage runs small so I’m sure it would fit more of a size 8- 10. From the fun peeps over at coincidinky.

Thhhhhhat’s all for now folks! HAPPY MONDAY!

3. THE GIRL WITH THE MOST CAKE

Words fail me….this is quite simply the prettiest cake ever! And I bet it tastes just as delicious.

{via poppytalk}

4. LITTLE MAN DUDS

These little dudes are cute. Sharon from the fun blog, NYC Taught Me posted her fun tips for dressing toddler boys. I will say that not every kiddo is so agreeable to suspenders (Hello? Wolfie? Yes I’m talkin’ to YOU) but I will also say that when Wolfie was in kindergarten I totally bought him a pair of girl’s Paper, Denim Cloth black jean leggings (cotton not denim) from TJ Maxx and he rocked the heck out of ’em….never knowing they were from the girl’s dept. They just looked like rad rocker jeans. But on the suspender tip, American Apparel makes some great ones for kiddos in bright colors.

5. I WANT TO RIDE THIS BICYCLE
I think this crazy charming Alexander Girard bicycle might even get my big ol’ booty exersizing.

Our friend Tracy knows food. And her kiddo Cooper eats like a champ. Check out her tips for feeding kids. Now if only I can get her to work on Wolfie…

7. POLKA DOTTY DREAMS

I don’t have a little girl but if I did, I sure would buy her these amazing (AMAZING!) polka dot flamenco mary janes. Fab with dressies but genius with little rolled up jeans! Made in Spain, available from gestipt.

{via bloesem kids}

8. MUST HAVE MOCKS

For all you sassy ladies who are in search of stylish but comfy shoes, I think these mocassins are the cutest thing ever!! I just I might need to buy a pair.

{via a beautiful mess}

9. SHE WORE BLUE VINTAGE
Coral Vintage has quite possibly one of the best vintage collections around! The prices are rather high, but the garments are all spectacular. And it doesn’t hurt that proprietress Christine is drop dead gorgeous as she models all the dressies! Miss Jenny tracked the lovely Christine and got the skinny on how she started her shop! It’s a fascinating read.
