I thought this was such a fun idea, I knew I wanted sit down for a virtual cuppa tea with Los Angeles-based uber mama Christine to ask her about this dynamic duo!

modernkiddo: Hi Christine! It’s so great to chat with you. OK, so monthly boxes of goodies. LOVE! How did littlefox come to be ?

littlefox: So glad you like! littlefox came about when my sister Lauri and I realized we had spent way too much time researching and trying hundreds and hundreds of products, only to discover they didn’t live up to the hype. We put our heads together and decided we could streamline the path for other moms by gathering all the cool, eco-friendly products we loved for our own kids and offering them on a monthly subscription basis.

modernkiddo: Genius! So, you are both mamas. Can I ask how many you have?

littlefox: Combined we have six kids ranging in ages from 10 months to 20 years old! l

modernkiddo: Six kiddos! Wow. Tell us more!

littlefox: Lauri has Nicole (age 20) and Sam (age 6). I have Rhyan (age 15), Gavin (age 13), Ili (age 3) and Vice (age 10 mos)!

 photo littlefoxTITLE.jpg

modernkiddo: I lsimply adore the title on your business cards, “Buyer of Awesome” so great! How do you decide what to put in each package?

littlefox: That’s really the fun part! We have a small group of moms that we bounce ideas off of including an official “Meter Reader of Awesome”. We’re also always keeping our eyes peeled. I like to read style blogs to keep up with new trends. A new favorite is minestyle!

modernkiddo: Where do you draw most of your creative inspiration from?

littlefox: I’d say most of my inspiration comes from music and cartoons. Every item in the littlefox packs are items i have or want for my own kids.

modernkiddo: When you’re not taking over the world with your sublimely cool goodie boxes, what do you like to do?

littlefox: Anything that involves dirt or sand—if you add ice cream i’m definitely involved. Gardening is a new hobby. Weekends for me typically involve the beach or park. I’m also a proud zoo member and know that place like the back of my hand!

modernkiddo: Any big plans or sneak peeks you can give us for the future of the Packs of Awesomeness!

littlefox: Welllll, there’s always something brewing at littlefox. The newest item we are super excited about is the debut of our littlefox baby shower packs—launching hopefully within the next month!

modernkiddo: OK, one last question just for fun! If we were to stop by the littlefox offices, what music would be find on your playlist??

littlefox: Hmmm, depends on which office you choose! if you’re here with me you’re possibly walking into anything from The Specials to Yo Gabba Gabba to Gogol Bordello and everything in between. Right now i have Lightning Bolt by Jake Bugg running on repeat through my head.
If you’re visting Lauri, my guess would definitely be The Black Keys!
Thank you so much  for your time, Christine!  Friends, you can get your own littlefox monthly subscription for $37.95 (shipping included) right here. Each box is worth between $50-70.  This is a terrific deal and trust me, your little one will be bowled over by the delightful and charming box of awesomeness that will land on your door stop every month.  You can also find littlefox on instagram and facebook.com/findlittlefox. Our thoughts are with you, dear Boston.

Oh Boston. How heartbreaking yesterday was. Alix and I were both so affected by this horrible tragedy.

I ran a marathon years ago.  It was one of the most exhilarating and powerful things I’ve ever done.  I spent months training and then flew across the U.S. to push my body  farther than I ever had before for a few hours.  That feeling of crossing the finish line was simply magical.  You aren’t just running alone—you are running with thousands of others. And you feel that you are part of something bigger than just 26.2 miles.  A community of people, all ages and sizes, that want to help you cross that finish line. It is truly beyond despicable that someone would chose such an uplifting and amazing event to terrorize— scarring both town and race forever.

People from Boston love their town fiercely.  That big city goes out of its way to make people feel welcome for this race rooting people they’ve never even met from countries all around the world.  And nothing gets them down—No Nor’Easter could blow away Boston’s spirit!  What a class act you are, Boston.

Alix and I both have ties there thanks to our college years, friends, living out there and visiting many times throughout our lives.  It doesn’t matter whether they are socialites or salt of the earth, folks from Boston have such big hearts. Big enough to make sure that everyone affected by this tragedy would be taken care of.  That is the only thing that helped me sleep last night.

Boston, our hearts are with you and your runners.

No heavy coats allowed!

Forgive me if this week’s round up doesn’t include a single sweater or coat.  Even if you are shoveling your way out of your house this morning, I need spring to be sprung.  Come on, April–didn’t you get the memo?  We need daffodils and warm afternoons and lunches outside.  So, I’m going to celebrate by posting not a single snowy weather piece of kiddo clothing. Yay!

Oh, this darling little mushroom cuteness, y’all!  From  Serious Vintage Y’all!

This little vintage school poster would be a terrific addition to any little boy or girl’s room, don’t you think? From Etsy seller, Legal Miss Sunshine.

I totally would have stayed in Brownies longer if the uniforms were as cute as this one from the fifties!  And made more gorp and s’mores, too! From Etsy seller, Aiseirigh Vintage.

Couldn’t  you see me in this sugar sweet ruffle top and a diaper for some sweet crawling baby? Sigh! From Etsy seller, the Little Plum.

Peter pan collars are a weakness of mine.  But with these great stripes? Color me sold! From Etsy seller, Lil’ Milli Jayne.

Every Day’s a Play Day // Win a Polarn O Pyret $50 Gift Certif

 photo PopTITLE.jpg

There is a philosophy in Sweden….there’s no such thing as bad weather. Just bad clothing! Meaning, if you bundle up in the right gear, kids can play outside rain or shine. I love this way of thinking. Nothing beats fresh air. Our friend’s at Polarn O. Pyret are huge believers in this way of thought and are holding their 4th annual EVERY DAY IS PLAY DAY week. Twice a year they make it their mission to encourage everyone to play outside, no matter the weather.  And no one keeps your kids covered in rainy/cold/sunny/snowy weather better than Polarn O. Pyret.

This weekend was surprisingly chilly—the Bay Area weather is notoriously fickle and the temperature really dipped low. We had planned on going on a little hike with Sammy dog and even though the sun wasn’t out, we didn’t let the cold weather deter us one bit! Wolfie bundled up in a super cozy parka and was comfy the entire day!

HOW WE STAYED COZY IN THE COLD

Wolfie is wearing the PoP WINTER PUFFER JACKET. (was $122, now $48, total bargain!)

This jacket is the BOMB, friends. It also comes in fuchsia and has SO MANY special details—things like a detachable hood, reflectors, thumb holes on the cuffs, a cool little zip cover so if it gets really cold and you zip allllll the way up, it doesn’t rub your chin. This is one super smart jacket, friends.

Wolfie is also wearing the PoP Colored Slim Fit jeans, which are really terrific. Skinny leg, but still lots of stretch for movement/running/climbing. If you have been a long time reader, then you know Wolfie LOVES these jeans.

Disclaimer: Our friends at Polarn O. Pyret kindly sent us clothing for review, but we were not paid for this post. All opinions as always, are our own. I love their clothing. And I’m loving this jacket. Scoop one up at that sale price. If it’s no longer cold where you are (lucky duck), you can save it for next year.

OK, so on to the $50 gift certificate! Like I said, Polarn O. Pyret has declared this EVERY DAY A PLAY DAY week! They are challenging parents to get their kiddos to go outside and play every day for a week. That can include walking to school, meeting friends at the playground or taking a walk through a nearby park or around your neighborhood. The goal? Get families enjoying the outdoors no matter what the weather! To sweeten the deal, they are giving away a $50 gift certificate (enough to win that sweet jacket!) now thru April 14.

Here are the details:
When: April 8-14, 2013
Where: Outside!
What you should bring: Clothes for the weather, a camera, and a positive attitude!

How to participate:

1) Go outside and play with your kids. Submit your photos and tell Polarn O. Pyret (PoP) what you and your kiddos did. Each day PoP will randomly select one $50 gift certificate winner from all those who have submitted photos and/or stories. You can submit your stories and photos right here. Easy peasy! Oh, and you don’t have to be wearing PoP clothing. Just having FUN OUTDOORS!

2) Keep track of how much time you played outside each day and let PoP know on Facebook. They’re looking to beat the 1,100 hours everyone logged this past November.

3) And finally, share your photos on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and/or Instagram! Be sure to tag with #polarnopyretusa and #everydayaplayday.

So whaddya say? Let’s get outside and play!

Vintage Bookshelf // 70s Kiddo Cookbook!

 photo 70s_kidsbook_1.jpg

My friend Laura brought this book over for me to look at the other day….and I was HOOKED! I have several vintage kiddo cook books (I shared the fabulous 1964 edition Fun to Cook children’s cookbook with you earlier this year!) but I’d never seen this one before—and you know I love new discoveries. This one was published by Golden Books in 1974 and the illustrations are fantastic. Very psychedelic and colorful. They remind me so much of School House Rock. Let’s take a lil look!
