Friday Link Hootenanny // Fun Stuff to Browse

 photo FunStuffLinks.jpg
Oh yes! It’s the weekend people!! We are having another vintage blow out sale (things are priced to SELL friends!! See the next post for all the details, if you are a local….). Even though it was a busy week, there were a bunch of things that caught my eye. Take a gander, and have a most excellent weekend! xoxo

1. UNO

I’m loving this clever/cool idea for kiddo art over on Small Fry.

2. DOS
 photo freecoloringpages.jpg
Color with Mimi has these really fun printable coloring pages. SO cute.

3. TRESS
 photo Salad1.jpg
They had me at “carmelized apple cider vinaigrette”. YUM. See more here.

4. QUATRO
 photo Stork_0.jpg
Lately I’ve seen lots of “A Photo a Week of my Children” series, which I think are so special. But I was very charmed by Ashley’s clever take on it. A Photo a Week of her husband! When you have kiddos it’s easy to put your relationship on the back burner (life gets consumed with diapers and feedings and consoling little ones and just all around silly play time). I thought this was a really beautiful way to stay connected. See more over here.

5. CINCO

These Swan Lake shoes were The Shoes of Tomorrow in 1957. LOVE! See more past future shoes HERE. (via Honey Kennedy)

This is so stinkin’ clever. You can recycle/reuse old glass bottle and jars—but give them a wee face lift with the Snug Vase! Get yours here.

7. SIETE

 photo NYT_1.jpg

Dottie shared this fun link with me. The New York Times blog “The City Room” has been holding a “Kids Draw the News” contest, where they ask children to draw the latest headlines. It’s SO charming and sweet. I would have been allll over this when I was a kiddo! These photos were for a story about a runaway zebra.  See more here.

8. OCHO
 photo PhotoShop.jpg
This cracked me up. A family took a group portrait that was special to them….and within a year or so, the son got a divorced. His mom wanted to remove the ex-wife from the photo (apparently it wasn’t a pleasant divorce) and had someone do some photoshop wizardry on the pic. Instead of holding the arm of the ex-wife, she’s holding a beer! HAH! Read about it here.

9. NUEVE

I mean….what’s to say about Awesome Soul Train GIFS but OH YES. See tons more here.

10. DIEZ. BONUS VIDEO

I think this British commercial with Audrey Hepburn is extremely charming. It’s getting mixed reviews (using her likeness when she isn’t alive etc) but her sons said she adored chocolate and they though she would have approved of it (as did they, since they are in charge of her estate). I think it’s rather tastefully done! (I like it so much more than that Audrey GAP ad from years back.)

 photo Hoot_stuff.jpg

ALOHA! Greg, Wolfie and I just got back from Hawaii and man on man was it ever relaxing! {We stayed at the Aulani Resort on Oahu….truly an awesome experience! I’ll share some photos next week.} We are now back in the Bay Area….back to work, back to school and back to bundling up. Argh. Despite the jarring re-entry into society, I managed to scare up a couple of fun linkies for you. Extra smooches to Dottie-O, for a couple of hot tips too!! xoxo

1. A DELICIOUS THINGS MOMENT

What happens when Legendary Style Icons meet Sexy Food photography? This post right here. Wow. (thanks Dottie for sending this my way!!)

2. A NEW YORK MOMENT

 photo KateSpadeSat_5.jpg
 photo KateSpadeSat_4.jpg

I love Kate Spade—the colors, the designs. They’re pretty much killing it these days. And so I was totally thrilled to discover they were launching a new, slightly more affordable line: Kate Spade Saturday. Like Kate Spade New York, Saturday features bright colors, bold graphics and clean shapes—but for half the price. They just had a preview sale on Fab.com (which is an awesome, but dangerous site for deals!). I managed to curb my buying, but convinced by friend Jessica to buy that jumpsuit. SO CUTE. I can’t wait for the full line to launch. Although my wallet is quite happy it hasn’t….

3. A TINY MOMENT
 photo TinyPeople_1.jpg

Slinkachu, an artist in his mid-thirties from London, has a thing for photographing miniatures. And they’re REALLY fun. He buys his tiny dancers from a company that normally supplies model railway enthusiasts, and typically abandons his work to the street after he has photographed them.I’d love to stumble upon one of his creations.See more here. (Another great Dottie tip!)

4. A GRAND MOMENT

 photo AMB_wall2.jpg

Statement walls are all the rage, and I thought this one created by Elsie was really super cool. It could have been a bit cloying (too much lovey dovey?) but I think she pulled it off beautifully! See more here.

5. A PURRFECT MOMENT

 photo crunchy-cat-treat1.jpg
Design Sponge has been going pet crazy this past week and I love it! I have seen lots of recipes for dog treats, but never one for the kitties. I thought Joy the Baker’s Kitty Treats would be really fun to try with Wolfie. See the whole thing over on design*sponge.

6. A SASSY SENIOR MOMENT

 photo KarenWalker_2.jpeg

Karen Walker makes really cool sunglasses. She’s also known for daring ad campaigns. Her latest? A collaboration with Ari Seth Cohen of Advanced Style, featuring four glamorous New York women, ages 65- 92, as models. AWESOME.

HAVE A HAPPY WEEKEND FRIENDS!

Friday Link Hootenanny // Oh yes.

 photo Hoot_Kitty_zps0223bfcd.jpg

HAPPPPY Friday Friends! Did you manage to scoop up any goodies from the Mikasa Su Casa Grand Opening? I’m still eyeing those enamel pins! (not like I neeeeeed more.)  We had a sudden bit of sunny warm weather over here, so I’m hoping Wolfie and I can get in a little dog walking and outdoor fun this three day weekend. Do you have any fun plans? Do tell! Until then, here are some fun things I found while poking around the web!

1.  A PARTY OF A WALL.
 photo confetti_1_zps2f28b3b6.jpg

How fantastic does this giant confetti wall look? SO pretty. And so simple. It’s just one of the fabulous DIY projects you’ll find in Beci Orpin‘s cool book, Find & Keep. Definitely on my list of “ones to buy”.

2. FIVE VINTAGE BATHROOMS, BY I.P. FREELY

 photo RetroBathroom_1_zps7f799c34.jpeg

I feel like the Count on Sesame Street…”Not one, not two, not three, not four but FIVE! FIVE VINTAGE BATHROOMS! WAHHAHAHA!”  Pam at Retro Renovation always finds the ultimate in midcentury decor. She recently posted an amazing home that had FIVE vintage bathrooms, complete with gorgeous tile. Wow. Here is a little teaser, but head over to Retro Renovation immediately to see all of them!

3. A PICTURE TELLS A THOUSAND WORDS.

 photo over2_zpsabbb4a82.jpg

During Thanksgiving my Instagram shut down on me and wasn’t allowing me to comment or respond and it drove me BATTY. I discovered Overgram, a super cool free app that allows you to add text to your images. SO awesome. I actually upgraded to Over, the official app (you get more fonts and no watermark) and I really love it.

 photo Over1_zps00f31209.jpg

 photo over5_zps653c6240.jpg

Try Overgram for free (if you are trying to save money, the free version is pretty great— and for 99 cents you can get the water mark removed) OR bust out the full $1.99 and get the more deluxe Over. (thanks to Victoria for posting about Over and reminding me that I wanted to share it too!)

4. POST VALENTINES YUM.

 photo bean_1_zpsf0945bc0.jpeg

Tracey posted all these tasty TASTY recipes as a “What to Make for Valentines Day” guide, but man I’ll be making these allll year long! Check them out here.

5. MY HOMIE.
 photo Rachel1_zpsfaf9b414.jpeg

My friend Rachel has two kids and yet still somehow manages to craft up a storm and have a fabulous, picture perfect home. I love how put together, yet cozy and liveable it is. Check out her home tour here.

6. GRIME FIGHTERS WITH A HEART OF GOLD.

 photo windowwashers_1_zpsc3bd2f9a.jpeg

This image has been making the rounds and I just love it. Last October, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh worked with Allegheny Window Cleaning to give the young patients a special Halloween treat. Kids woke up to find characters like Superman, Spider-Man, Batman and Captain America washing their windows. SO special.

7. LORD OF THE WATERCOOLER.
 photo elijah1_zps78b92264.jpg

Oh Elijah. This campaign for Alexander McQueen is pretty cool. You don’t see the fellas modeling as much as the ladies. See more pics of a more dapper Frodo here.

8. ZIP IT, SMARTY.
 photo ziplocbag02_zpsd95f9e6c.jpg

This clever way to customize ziplock sammie bags is so simple it’s GENIUS. See how here.

9. PLEASE & THANK YOU.

 photo ModernEtiquette_zpsb4b9e0ea.jpg
I loved this piece that Grace posted about online etiquette. Some great rules of thumb in there—and smart reminders. Read the whole article on design*sponge

10. BONUS VIDEO // OLIVE US
 photo cider-farm11_zpsa9dabe68.png

I am so enamored with the sweet series Design Mom Gabby is doing with her kiddos in France. Each one is SO special. I’ve shared some of them already…this one doesn’t disappoint either!

HAPPPPPY FRIDAY my friends!

TGIF Baby! Do you have any big plans? We are finally on an upswing from all these awful colds and flu bug that are swirling around. We have a few things to do, but I think we’ll keep on taking it easy. In the mean time, here are some fun things I stumbled upon while browsing ye olde webbie!

1. KACHEW.

Photobucket

Photobucket

These elephant tissue boxes are adorable! Get them here.

2. LAND OF 1000 NODS.
Photobucket

Photobucket
The talented Lisa Congdon has a new line of bedding featuring her retro-style buildings motif. It’s super cute! It’s called the 1001 Good Nights Crib Bedding. I love it.

3. FRIDA BE YOU AND ME.
Photobucket

Photobucket
I have aways loved Frida Kahlo and felt a connection to her—she’s half German and half Mexican, just like me. I was also always intrigued by her outfits—she was “retro” before it was even a word, wearing traditional dresses that no one of the period would have ever worn or gotten away with. For the first time her closet has been opened to the public, “Appearances Can Be Deceiving: The Dresses of Frida Kahlo.” See more about it here. I wish I could see them!

4. SF GIRL BEFORE & AFTER.
Photobucket
Victoria of sfgirlbybay just moved into a super cute cottage. I love seeing what she did with the place. But even more interesting is seeing how it was a so-so cottage when she first moved in. Check out these before and after photos. WOW!

5. BOWL ME OVER.
Photobucket

Photobucket

I’m sure it’d still be sloppy, but this ramen bowl for iPhone owners is making me giggle. See it here.

6. FREE FREE FREE!
Photobucket
Designer Breanna Rose has a fantastic collection of fabulous and FREE fonts you can download. Aw yeah! Some cool ones, check them out here.

7. VALENTINES ARE FOR SUCKERS. (the sweet ones)
Photobucket

Photobucket
Looking for a fun DIY Valentine idea? This one from Design Mom is super clever!

8.PEEK-A-BOO KITTY.
Photobucket

Have you stopped by The Coveteur? It’s a voyeuristic sneak peek into the homes and closets of celeb fashionistas. I’m a big So You Think You Can Dance fan, and I loved seeing cute Cat Deeley’s digs. Check ’em out here!

9. HIP HIP HOORAY.
Photobucket

Photobucket
Alexander Wang’s little niece Aila is ridiculously hip and cute. I mean really.

10. BONUS VIDEO. DANCE. DANCE.
This made the rounds a year or so ago…but I just watched it again the other night and it just made me smile. Have you seen it? If not, you must. Dancing just always makes me happy.

And if you have seen it, then check out the sublime Candy Johnson in the closing credits for 1963s BEACH PARTY. BRILLIANT!

Friday Link Hootenanny

Oh friends, I have to tell you we are sick as dawgs over here. Poor Wolfie caught the flu and has been out of school all week. Now I have a reeeeeally bad cold, so we’re just miserable. As a result, a slightly shorter Hootenanny. It’s going around, so take care of yourselves!! But in the meantime….let’s check out some fun stuff to take our minds off this awful cough!

1. CREEPY COOOL CUPS.

EEP! Check out these cheeky lil coffee mugs! As you drink, you get a lil surprise at the bottom. See them here.

2. PEOPLE IN GLASS HOUSES.

Wow. This house is really made out of glass, and the concept is that the inhabitants would be completely immersed in the nature of their surroundings. I think it would be stunning by day—but come evening I’d get a lil nervous. See more here.

{via deisgn mom}

3. HANDMADE FROM THE HEART

Arounna from design shop bookhou wrote a thoughtful piece on her blog in response to a comment someone left about her prices being too high for their taste. It was a terrific reminder of all the time and craftsmanship that goes into handmade goods—buy handmade, people! (Read it here.)

4. PEEKABOO I SEE YOU.

I spied this adorable little scrolling photo box over at Charlotte’s Fancy and thought it was just the cutest craft around. See how to make it here.

5. REMEMBER THE TITANS.

Little girls always look so snuggly warm and cute in their tights. Well why should they get to have all the fun?? Little Titans has created the coolest line of legging/tights for lil toddler fellas, but in boy-friendly styles and colors. LOVE! See them here.

6. BARBIE, GIMME THAT HOUSE.

Hey, my Barbie townhouse didn’t look anything like THIS amazing creation. See more here.

7. PARIS IN COLOR

Dottie sent me this link and I was smitten—a collection of extremely rare colored photographs, taken at the beginning of the 20th century in Paris. You must see them all.

HAVE A FABULOUS WEEKEND! Wash those hands and stay healthy!!
