Meet Sunny! Our Weekly Kiddo.

Greetings from Salt Lake City! Dottie and I are having a simply amazing time here at ALT (that’s Altitude Design Summit). Yesterday was filled with boat loads of seminars, chit chatting and skipping around networking. The big excitement around these parts were the lunch time guest speakers: Seth Aaron and Mondo from Project Runway. It was such a thrill to meet those guys! I totally love me some Project Runway. I am pleased to report I had not one, not two…but THREE spectacular Mondo moments. I’ll leave them as a little cliff hanger to our ALT recap next week! Suffice to say he is super sweet and cool and cute. I was a fan before and I’m an even bigger one now!

Speaking of fashion…let’s get movin’. It’s time for our Weekly Kiddo! Every Friday we do a little Street Style salut to the fashion blogs with a profile of a very stylish kiddo. This week we have Miss Sunny! You guys are gonna love her, lemme tell ya. Her mama Lisa has a great sense of style (she runs the Etsy vintage shop Secondhand Love Kids). Take a gander at this girlie:

Um, the temporary tattoo? Yeah, I love this little diva. Her mama Lisa tells us that most of Sunny’s clothes are thrifted, eBay bargains & a few special pieces from their favorite etsy kids designers —especially Devon Rose, Tiny Happy & Lucy’s Place.

How adorable is this sweet little thang?? The beautiful Miss Sunny is three years old and she loves, loves, loves puppies. She also really enjoys ballet and can often be found dancing around the house…when she isn’t showing off her other favorite hobby: TALKING! This cute girlie loves riding around on her scooter and helping her Poppy in his workshop. When it comes to favorite foods, strawberries are tops in Sunny’s book. Lisa told me the cutest thing, “Sunny is such a sweet little girl. Her little smile (missing tooth and all) makes my heart pitter pat. She’s Kiddo of every Week to me!” I love that!

THANK YOU lisa for sharing this sweet little lady with us!

Have an awesome weekend everyone….we’ll be coming back next week with a full report on our jaunt to ALT!

Meet Jack Hazard! Our Weekly Kiddo.

Happpppy Friday my friends! It’s the end of the week and you know what that means—time for another Weekly Kiddo! This is our little nod to the street style of fashion blogs, where we show off an especially cool kiddo with great style. This week we have an awesome young lad of three, Mr. Jack Hazard! This dapper little gent has style in spades….I think you’ll love him!

Jack’s super sweet mama, Mary Catherine says, “We love vintage, and costume wear for everyday.  Jack’s raccoon hat is a treasured accessory, and one we found on a road trip to John Wayne’s boyhood home!”

Jack loves to wear bowties!  Which is a treat for his similarly inclined mama.

STYLIN’! Hee hee. Check out this shades!

Aw, Jack Hazard rockin’ the John John with his little converse. I love it!

How awesome is this little fella? We talked to Jack Hazard’s super mama who told us that he loves worms, tea parties, cooking with his mom, big hugs and boats. He likes to read his favorite books to their cat, Archie Snowpants, who is a pretty good sport about this.  He best friends are Worm Baby (a puppet) and Laundry (a little bear.)  His mother would like to point out that both were named by Jack! Young Jack Hazard is a musical boy and he knows all the words to “No Children” by The Mountain Goats, and “The Battlehymn of the Republic”.

I asked his mama if there was a story behind his cool name and this is what she said:

“Oliver Hazard Perry was a naval commander in the war of 1812, and he was incredibly brave, loyal and lucky.  Just the kind of man I want my boy looking up to! It’s kind of a sappy little story for such a rakish name, but I love it. I’ve always been crazy for history!”

Mary Catherine, I love it too! Thank you so much for sharing your sweet little guy with us. Be sure to stop by Mary Catherine’s blog, Spilled Milk/Broken Bread and say hi!

Do you have a stylish, cute kiddo you want to share with our readers? Then send ’em our way! You can read how to submit a kiddo right here. We’re always looking for new cuties to feature. If you’ve submitted before and haven’t heard from us, please drop me a note. My In Box gets a little packed, and it’s possible I missed it! Write me at: Alix [at] modernkiddo.com

Meet Wren! Our Weekly Kiddo.

I’m so excited about this weeks kiddo, my friends. We have our very first little style maven glasses! And this cutie patootie is sportin’ the most rockin’ pair of spex you’ve ever seen! Meet the fabulously, adorable Wren. Her mama Mari is an ex toy designer (and a great pal of Modern Kiddo!). She runs the awesome blog, Small for Big and is always showcasing really fun, cool stuff. Wren is a rambunctious, artistic, independent little sass. She loves kitties, coloring with her colored pencils, and putting stickers on everything. For some strange reason she calls every single one of her crayons pink (which has stunned and slightly dismayed her momma!).

But she also drops everything and runs to the back window to watch the Choo Choo Trainsacross the field from our backyard. She has an innate talent for modern interpretive dance with props—large kitchen spoons paired with Vampire Weekend and the classic 1970s Sesame Street album “In Harmony” are her current faves! (I die….) She is also a pro at running away from her parents in parking lots. First thing each morning you’ll find her sitting quietly with perfect posture on the sofa, her favorite picture book of the moment (or Daddy’s C++ manual) flipped open in her lap.

Thank you Mari for sharing your crazy cute little sweetie with us!

Meet Serenity! Our Weekly Kiddo.

After a two week hiatus, I’m pleased to report that the Weekly Kiddo is BACK! And wait til you see the little fashion diva we have for you today. The beautiful Miss Serenity has style galore! Her mama Angie is very artistic and runs a fun blog called Treasures for Tots! She is also the family photographer and took all these fabulous shots. Her mama dresses her in a stylish combination of vintage, Etsy finds and handmade goodness. Seriously you’re going to love this little one! So lets just get right too it….the fabulous Serenity!

Holy smokes I love this upcycled dress. Found via ChoosyChu. Ruffled leggings from Tag-You-R-It.

This awesome vintage jacket is from Modern Kiddo fave, 3 Ring Circus! Adorable up-cycled pants (they have a great bottom trim!) from CourtneyCourtney. Organic tee with original silkscreen from Wren Willow.

This amazing dress is from Etsy seller courtneycourtney. Angela is a big fan of this line, and i can see why:

“I guess what I like the most is all the attention to details and the creativity Courtney pours into each piece she makes. In my opinion, that’s what makes her dresses top quality. Each dress is different – no two are alike! No other little girl, in the world, will have a dress just like Serenity – it’s totally hers! How awesome is that?! As you can tell, I’m blown away by that fact! Not only does Courtney mix and match all kinds of fabrics and prints, but she does her own silkscreen designs and painting too! Awesome Artwear!”

I agree Angela. These are totally adorable—of course it helps that Serenity is so stunning. I suspect this child would look good in a potato sack! Let’s look at some more amazing Serenity sportin’ the courtneycourtney goodness:

Amazing! The headband? The dressie? I love it all! The necklace is a fairy catcher from Grow With Me Gifts.

Her mama says she’s definitely a girlie girl but she is also a spunky little cutie and loves to rock sassy little leggings like these. Angela says that this looks is also a great way to get a little extra mileage out of favorite dressies, and I totally agree!

Are you dying??? How stylish and funky is this little one? And don’t get me started on the AMAZING hair. By the way, those fun bracelets were made my Angela herself. They are Squinkies, cute lil eensey weensy squishy figurines that come in small globes. Angela has a fun tutorial for making these bangles right on her blog.

Miss Serenity is a little light. She loves to laugh and play and is a big nature lover. You can often find her planting flowers and seeds with her mama or chasing fairies. Being a true modern kiddo, little Serenity is also a tech wiz and loves to play on her mama’s iPad! We just can’t get enough of her.

Angie, thank you so much for sharing your gorgeous little girl with us!

Vintage Kiddo Retro Roundup!

Did everyone get their fill of candy last night?  Was everyone’s treat or treating forays a success? The Peach’s first trick or treating experience was a success–only one minor meltdown where she sat in the street and refused to budge. But other than that she went to bed very happy with the fact that once a year she can get away for asking for candy from strangers.

But even Halloween couldn’t keep me away from finding a few treats and perhaps tricks to share with you all for the first vintage Kiddo round up of November!

Oh lawdy, this kitty top is so stinky cute, that if it is still here by tonight, I’m going to buy it for the Peach.  From Etsy seller, Fun with Puns!

I adore these olive buckle shoes. I just wish they came in my size! From eBay seller, Bibliowhiz.

Reversible coat. Red and gray gorgeousness! From eBay seller, mayo5050.

Suspenders are going to come back in style any day now, so best to prepare yourself now with this dandy pair of suspenders from Etsy seller PinkyAGoGo.  I totally dig the little rocking ’em with the skirt look on the packaging.

Gray sweaters can be rather granny, but this little girl sweater is so darling with the red flowers and sweet cabling to boot.  From Etsy seller, Spun Sugar Vintage.

Might I suggest this darling dress to anyone in who plans to celebrate Christmas in a warm weather place this fun little dress with side lace-ups. So much fun! From Etsy seller, TTCS.

Don’t have enough Orlon in your life? Solve that problem with this wonderful gray and yellow and orange sweater and pants set!  From Etsy seller, vintage tot spot.

I know the Dallas Cowboys are having a tough year so far, but perhaps this super fan Dallas Cowboy jacket. Again, from Etsy seller, vintage tot spot.

Overalls are I think the ultimate piece of clothing every boys should own.  And these blue and green stripey ones are a perfect addition.  From our girl, 3 Ring Circus.

All this little suit jacket needs is a pair of gray shorts and voila! Perfect dress up out for any dapper boy.  Thanks for finding it Lish!
