Friday Link Hootenany :: Cool Stuff to Browse

Happy Friday Folks! Any big plans for the weekend? I’m selling at the Alameda Flea Market again (Hey! Cute Freckle Face Vintage girls, you gonna be there too?? I lost your email, drop me a note and lemme know which booth you’re in!). I’m excited, but feeling verrry unorganized. I have to venture into the garage to check out my goods. Cross yer fingers we sell sell sell! If you are a local, def swing by and say hi! We are in booth U-6, which is a corner booth towards the back. The Alameda Flea is loads of fun with great goodies from lots of amazing vendors.

In the mean time, here are some fun linkies for you to check out.

1. CLICK! IT’S THE WORLD’S CUTEST TAPE DISPENSER!

I love wrapping paper. And I love pretty tape and ribbons and basically any kind of “wrapping accoutrements”. So you can only imagine how I extra specially love this awesome tape dispenser. Get yours (and browse others) from cute tape.

2. SUPER HERO FOOTSIES

All I have to say is Small Fly is super fly. They make these awesome little wings that attach to your kiddo’s sneaks, so they can look like a super rad superhero/greek god. They also make fun lightning bolts. COOLNESS.

3. GREEN WITH ENVY OVER MARTHA’S JADITE.

I love this pretty pale, milky green glassware….and Martha Stewart owns a ton of it. This article made me want to collect it. The color is so great, it also makes me kind of want some groovy pale green tupperware from the 60s/70s.

4. HEY CUTIE, WHERE YOU BEEN?

Take daddy’s old vacation tee (or mommy’s old rock tee) and turn it into the cutest little romper! So smart. I know it’s autumn soon, so pair it with tights and a long sleeve tee underneath. See how over here.

5. WACCA WACCA! IT’S A PAC MAN UKULELE!

Hee. Dottie sent me this link. I love the red ghost. Nice touch. Now if only someone would write a song called Tip Toe, Thru the Arcade. Check it out here.

6. JARS OF HAPPINESS

Storage is always a challenge….but I think these playful jars would be so much fun and a great project to do with your kiddos. Found over here, via ohdeedoh.

7. DAHLINK! IT’S A HOLLY GO-SPRIGHTLY CAPE.

I’m not a sewing expert, but I think even I could make this sweet little cape—which is essentially a circle skirt! SMAHT! Find the pattern over here.

8. WIDDLE WOOMS MAKE ME SMILE.

I’m really loving this sweet nursery i saw over on Run With Scissors. The suitcases-as-storage look so adorable.

While you’re over there, you can also check out the rad Missoni-style afgan Janel made here. And as a lovely aside, Janel read my post on Missoni maddness and saw how I was coveting the damn Missoni throw (because it matches our couch poifectly). Anyway, she scored one and decided she didn’t really need it, so she offered it up to me! How sweet is that! I pay pal-ed her the moolah before you could say “Zigga Zag, AH!” And Wolfie and I were snuggling under it this morning. Ahhh.

9. HEY LOOK! IT’S US!

We were pleased as punch to be asked by Apartment Therapy’s ohdeedoh to give ’em a list of our favorite children’s books. It was SO hard to just pick a few. Check it out over here!

10. WON’T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR?

This is so sweet! Now you can watch Fred Rogers sing the opening theme song from Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood from 1967 thru 2000.

Sunday Link Hootenany :: Cool Stuff to Browse

image via: babiekins

Sooooooo, yeah. This was supposed to go up FRIDAY but we have had shoddy internet service (down almost the entire weekend! Booo!). We’re FINALLY back up, so apologies for being tardy to the party, friends!

1. BEATLES BEACH BLANKET BINGO

These vintage photos of the Beatles just hanging out on the beach are so cute. Paul looks so young!

2. STARRY STARRY NIGHT

These photos of stars at night had be captivated. So beautiful. There’s even a How To so you can take some yourself. Find more photos over here.

3. GORGEOUS QUIRKINESS

Christopher Patrick Ernst finds really cool photos of photographic wallpaper and then documents it. I have a new favorite. (hmm, I wonder if he’d like my Little Pink Houses series??) See more here.

4. ICE CREAM BAR

A recipe for chocolate banana ice cream plus cute kiddos in dance clothes= SO AWESOME. Find it here on vintage sugar cube.

5. ODE TO THE MISSONI BABY BLANKET

Oh Missoni fever….how you rocked us. Some hated it. Some loved it. Many coveted. Either way, it made for super fun conversation! The crafty Vickie Howell has her own little ode-to-Missoni with this awesome chevron blanket and it’s really sweet. See it over here.

6. CUTEST LITTLE PICTURE BOOK.

I’m totally in love with the vintage style drawings in this sweet book by Eric Nipper! Find more about it over at my girl frecklewonder‘s spot.

7. CRAZY SHOES.

I found these quirky amazing shoes design by Kobi Levi a while ago (maybe you remember seeing the banana shoe?) and then Miss Dottie sent me the link again as a reminder and lawdy mama, this amazing fella has even more crazy shoes.

The duck and swan are especially groovy. See them allll here.

8. MAKING A SPECTACLE.

I love the new design that they are rockin’ over at Kirtsy. Every day someone new “curates” a collection of fun links. This one on spectacles from Summer Bellessa (aka one of the Girls With Glasses) is reeeally cute.

9. A Giddy Yarn.

I know you probably think I get kick backs from Teri over at Giddy Giddy because she’s practically a regular in my round ups, but she’s just so awesome I can’t help myself! Check out these RAD little yard letters she crafted up. Easy and so cute.

10. I like this. So sue me.

When you have a child you look at things a little differently. There is this commercial running, that had I seen 7 years ago, I would have rolled my eyes and scoffed at. In fact, I think I DID roll my eyes when I first saw it. But my mom, who was visiting, said, “I bet Wolfie would think that was funny.” And suddenly I thought, “I bet she’s right.” The next day I pulled it up for him to watch (he was intrigued, wait mama WANTS me to watch a video?) and lemme tell you he was giggling and cracking up like crazy and soon we were all giggling and laughing. It’s really silly….and the “I’m a fancy advertiser lady” part of me knows I shouldn’t like this….but what the heck. I do.

It’s Time for the Friday Link Hootenanny

1. TEENSY SLICE OF MIDCENTURY.

While you can’t really play with it, there is something about this wee little house that is kind of cute. See it over here via Babble.

2. EAMES KNIT WITS.

These Eames chairs are so iconic and cool….but if we’re being honest, wire chairs ain’t the coziest. That’s why I am in love with this fabulous hand-knit seat cover! Hmmm, now if I could only convince Miss Dottie to come over and knit me one. (seen on the recraft)

3. QUIRKY SANDALS IN THE SAND.

Kiki kids made these really charming geta sandals (essentially a traditional Japanese wooden flip flop). The sneaky part? There are little “stamps” on the bottom so when you walk you leave behind animal foot prints. SO FUN! Check them out here.

4. BLACK AND WHITE AND FUN ALL OVER.

Oh this is a great idea! Loads of free, downloadable coloring pages from the genius minds at Patterns For Colouring! Get yours here. Found via the lovely Draw! Pilgrim

5. ROOKIE IS A SMART COOKIE.

The infamous 15 year old Tavi, of Style Rookie fame, has launched a new web site for young girls. A little bit Sassy mag (Jane Pratt is one of her mentors) and a whole lotta modern cool. Check it out here. Looks like it should be fun. Hmm, reminds me I haven’t looked at Zooey Deschanel’s blog in ages. Wonder how that’s going?

6. AUCTIONS WITH A BANG BANG.

This auction house is bananas. You can actually bid on the Pink Panther’s sweet-n-spacey Panthermobile. The vehicle was created in 1969 by Jay Ohrberg. You may remember him as the mastermind designer behind infamous autos like the Ford Gran Torino from Starsky and Hutch, Knightrider’s K.I.T.T., the Back to the Future DeLorean, the Dukes of Hazzard’s General Lee, as the iconic Batmobiles from both 1966 and 1989. Jay Ohrberg was a busy guy.

But if you think that’s cool….this is ever COOLER. You can also bid on one of the original Chitty Chitty Bang Bang cars. AHHHHHH!

MY MIND IS BLOWN!  How about pulling up to the carpool drop-off lane at your school in that sweet ride?? Aw yeah. Place a bid over here.

7. YMA GONNA WANNA BID.

Speaking of crazy auctions, the estate of the glorious Yma Sumac is auctioning off her stage costumes on eBay. If you aren’t familiar with her, Yma was a famous Peruvian soprano who was a leader in the Exotica and lounge music movement of the 50s/60s, working with people like Les Baxter. She was super groovy. And to have a piece of her stage wardrobe? WOW! I am oggling the silver cape. There are some wonderful pieces! Look and drool here.

8. WAIT, WHAT? HUH? I’M SORRY COULD YOU REPEAT THAT?

When Greg claims can’t hear what I’m saying, I always joke that I need to get him an old timey ear horn. It cracks me up every time. And this thing…well….it’s making me giggle too. Get yours over here. Hee. Ear horn. (And can I award myself 10 points for not making a bad, “I feel horny” joke?)

9. THESE ZUCCHINI FRITTERS ARE MAKING ME DROOL.

Holy yum. This seems like the perfect transition from Summer to Autumn food! Learn how to make them here. And then bring them over to my house STAT.

10. I’M GOING GREEN.

We loooooove the Muppets here at Camp Kiddo, and I am loving this adorable new tribute CD. Muppets: The Green Album is a new collection of Muppet songs covered lovingly by the likes of Andrew Bird, OK GO, My Morning Jacket and Weezer. Read more here. Buy it from iTunes here. I also saw it at my local Starbucks.

BONUS RANDOMNESS

+ I was looking at my Twitter Klout (this mysterious rating system that tells you if people are listening to you) and I was pleased that I had a pretty nice rating going. But then it told me my areas of twitter expertise are “Blogging” “Shoes” and “Spice Girls”. What the what? SPICE GIRLS? I don’t recall tweeting about them EVER! That being said….uh….I was intrigued to see this photo of Posh Spice and her baby Harper.

+ This totally made me sad. Lindsay Lohan’s little sister looks like she got MAJOR plastic surgury. Gross. She’s claiming she didn’t but you be the judge. Check it.

+ Kate Plus 8 was cancelled. I admit I used to watch the show in the early days and enjoyed it (and was actually impressed with Kate and her managing that entire household). Then the whole John drama happened. And while she bugged me, I always tried to remind myself, “Hey, you don’t have SIX kids who are five years old. I’m sure she’s stressed.” But then I just watched the last couple of episodes since its going off the air, and whoooo mama. That Kate is a Class-A PITA (“pain in the ass”, doncha know). She was on a road trip with her kids and two other women and she belittled them and whined and complained the whole entire trip. Yeech. But I still felt badly that their main source of income was disappearing. Til I saw that she bought herself a flashy Audi. Sigh. Kate, Kate, you just aren’t great. See it here.

+ Also, who’s watching Project Runway???? Do we need to discuss??

5. VIEW FROM ABOVE.

Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberté is a lucky man. Besides being a gazillionaire, he recently got to travel in space as a “private explorer”. He orbited the earth for 11 days and took these phenomenal photos. WOW. See more here.

6. ADORABLE TRUNK SHOW.

Ahhhhh! Which is cuter, the little guys with the red satchel or the little girl with the silvery pom pom toes?? I really can’t decide. Find them over at cloth and thread.

8. MINI MAD MOD.

My secret shame? I adore the 60s and I work in advertising….and I’ve never seen an episode of Mad Men. I know….I KNOW! Even so, I was quite taken by this peek into Sally Draper’s closet over on the Coveteur.

Friday Link Hootenanny :: Cool Stuff to Browse

We are back from our trip….and as I mentioned, we immediately hopped in the car and headed down to San Diego for Tiki Oasis. Oy! Vacationing is exhausting!!! But it’s loads of fun too. I have no idea how I’m ever going to get all my photos ready to share with you guys! In the meantime, here are some fun things to browse over the weekend while I’m gettin’ mah Tiki on!

1. POLAROID COOKIES

These look so cool. I’m not sure how nummy they are to actually eat, but heck, they look so cute who cares! Get yours from Manjar (found via whoreange)

2. FREE VINTAGE DESKTOP WALLPAPER

These old vintage illustrations are really fun for your desktop background. Get yours (free!) here.

3. THE FABULOUS LADIES OF THE GLOW

The Glow promises a glimpse into the “world of inspiring and fashionable moms.” While most of them are clearly living a chic life that is not the norm, these mamas and their children are adorable. Lovely photos by Kelly Stewart. (I have to say the name makes me giggle…anyone else remember GLOW: Glamorous Ladies of Wrestling??)

4. DIY RECORD SLEEVE BUNTING.

Jordan Ferney’s site is always inspiring. I love this DIY flag/bunting made out of old record sleeves. Clever!

5. INSTAGRAM ACTIONS

These Instagram-inspired Photoshop Actions by Daniel Box (via Pugley Pixel) are a cool way to mimmic the effects without the iPhone.

7. SF GIRL BY BAY REBOOT

If you aren’t already a fan of the infamous sf girl by bay, then get thee over to her site stat! As most of you probably know, Victoria is a lovely lady, and her site is chock full of cool design and eye candy. She just launched a brand new look and it’s really smashing. Congrats Victoria!

8. THE COOL WORLD OF KIEKEBOE

Um. Yeah. Me too. See more on kiekeboe (found via honeykennedy)

9. I HEART HULA

By now you know I’m obsessed with Instagram (you can see mine here). I love seeing other peoples photos (OPP) and one of my favorite streams is that of Andrea, aka hulaseventy. She has the most wonderful eye and every photo of hers is simply magical. I was fortunate enough to meet her this past year and she is every bit as terrific as the photos she snaps. If you are in the Bay Area in September she is teaching an Instant Photography Workshop which is sure to be amazing. But til then, add her on Instagram or visit her blog. You won’t be disappointed!

10. PAUL McCARTNEY JUDGES 60s LIP SYNC CONTEST

This video is kind of amazing. Four young girls on “Ready Steady Go!” lip sync to a Brenda Lee song….and really get into it. Oddly Paul Mc Cartney was a guest judge. Check it out….and HAPPY FRIDAY!
