Olive Juice :: Great fashion and a great cause.

The lovely folks at Olive Juice sent us some clothing for the Peach and Wolfie and I gotta say, we Modern Kiddo mamas are so loving this brand!  Their line is decidedly vintage inspired, with classic pieces for boys and girls. Their stuff is reeeally cute and non-fussy. Now that the weather’s finally warmed up in the Bay Area we are able to wear such lovely lighter classics. Yay summer wardrobe!

The reason we are loving them so much lately, however, is because they are doing an amazing philanthropic push. In a “buy one, give one” effort, Olive Juice will provide one item of clothing for every item purchased through their special microsite, These donated items will then go to a child in need with the help of Clothes4Souls.

As if you didn’t need an excuse to buy such gorgeous clothes. But this great Clothes4Souls partnership just makes the clothes even sweeter.

Just look at Master Wolfgang in these wonderful linen pants!

Wolfie is sportin’ a pair of the Olive Juice Rand pant, which is great for boys or girls. They are reeeally comfy and while Alix dressed ’em down, you could easily dress them up. Alix said, “These are a 7/8 and are a little big on the Wolf (the clothing is cut generously), but he still loves them. The beauty of this pant is that as your kiddo grows, they get that cropped look (which I think they’re supposed to have) which makes them really beachie cool!”

Ms. Peach is rocking this sweet, lined linen dress, which I paired with a light cotton voile top.  I think this little dress would be wonderful just on its own or layered with a nice under shirt and leggings.  Super comfy and cozy as well! Also, it would be totally adorable next year worn as a tunic with some little shorts in a fun print fabric.  I am really impressed by the high quality of the piece, so I know it will last to next year, which is especially nice.

And bonus points for pockets! The Peach loves a good pocket.

So, three cheers for Olive Juice and its Clothes4Souls initiative. Do stop by Olive Juice to check out their wonderful clothing—and to help send an outfit or two to a child in need!

Made By Wolf. So of Course We Love It!

Right before we left for summer vacation, we received a little package from Made By Wolf….a really fun clothing company that partners with cool designers, illustrators and artists to create awesome tees for kids. The tee they sent us is SO colorful and fun, we love it! It’s a bright marigold with a really playful Circus design by Alex Westgate—and who doesn’t love a good circus design??

The shirts are generously cut and made of a great no-tag-in-the-back cotton. They release a new tee design every month and although they’re based in Europe they ship worldwide! A few of the other designs I love:

But really, this circus one is killing me with its cuteness. And our little Wolf cub is pretty fond of it too. I love a great tee that is groovy enough to be cool but isn’t too hipstery so as to lose that sense of little kiddo playfulness.

These pics were taken at Tiki Oasis (which I still have to tell you all about!) and Wolfie was exhausted. In the middle of taking these photos, my boy let out the biggest yawn…..and then a huge denial of, “I am NOT tired, mama. Seriously! I’m not tired at all.”  Mmm hmmm.

To get your hands on a super cute tee from Made By Wolf, swing by their site. You can also read up on all the cool designers they are featuring. There are plenty of other cute designs, but we say GO CIRCUS!

SPONSOR LOVE :: Nostalgic Graphic Tees

Oh, I do adore a beautiful t-shirt that encapsulates everything good about childhood. And somehow Elizabeth Norton has done that with her stunning line of simple yet sweet t-shirts that she sells at her Etsy shop, Nostalgic Graphic Tees.

With her beautifully detailed silhouettes, she captures a bit of the joy of childhood.

Charleston native, Elizabeth is the owner of a commercial graphic design firm and was inspired by her own children to branch out into clothing designs for kids. Her vintage-inspired, silhouette designs capture those memorable moments of a good, old-fashioned childhood. And that is something I can very much appreciate!

Elizabeth summed it up perfectly here:

“When a parent sees the shirts, I hope that they will feel nostalgic of their own childhood memories. Picking a perfect flower, playing on a see saw, twirling in a tutu, catching the first firefly of the summer, looking at clouds against a blue sky, rolling that favorite car across a make-believe terrain, fishing in grandpa’s pond…these are the images I want to capture and cherish from my own youthful days.

When a child sees the shirts, I want them to be drawn to the whimsical graphics that relate to their interests, and the colors and soft comfort. This is the shirt that I hope your children will reach for time and time again!”

Elizabeth, you have our hearts!

And Elizabeth has kindly offering a 15 percent discount on her magical tees—just use the code MODKIDDO for any in stock items. Sorry, no custom orders. But the offer is valid until July 15h. SWEET!

Thanks and be sure to check out the other beautiful designs from Nostalgic Graphic Tees.

SPONSOR LOVE :: Room to Romp!

We are so lucky at Modern Kiddo because we find the best sponsors whose products are the type of things we’d buy for ourselves in a heartbeat. And I certainly feel that way about Room to Romp. This Etsy shop offers parents wonderfully designed and long-wearing clothes for boys and girls.  I think rompers/jonjons/shortalls look wonderful on girls as well as boys and am eyeing quite a few items for the Peach.

Sandy, the sweet Southern gal behind Room to Romp told us a wee bit about herself that makes me like her and her products all the more. We’ll have a nice e-glass of sweet tea with mint. Doesn’t that sound nice. I could go for a glass of that right now, actually…

MK: Sandy, tell us about yourself…
Sandy: I’m a gal with deep southern roots, but I often feel like I was born in the wrong place at the wrong time.  Because my husband works for a French company, we’ve had 2 different opportunities to live in France.  When we first went there, in a strange way it felt like home, so maybe in another life I was French.
My husband, who I’ve been with since I was 15 years old, and I just celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary the same day our son turned 12.  (MK: I want to hear about that story over some whiskey added to this sweet tea, lady…) We have a daughter who will be 12 in 6 months.  That’s right. We have 2 children 6 months apart in age.  I’ve had some strange looks from people as they try to figure out how that is possible.  Adoption is part of the story.
MK: Why did you start your Etsy shop, Sandy?
Sandy: One of my greatest pleasures when my children were young was dressing them.  It’s the only time a mom can buy for and dress her children like she wants because around the age of 4, they start telling you what they will and won’t wear!  Finding cute clothes for my daughter was easy, but finding clothes for my son was frustrating.  Moms know that the choices in clothing for little boys is very limited.  What is mostly available for little boys today is exactly what their father would wear—golf or plaid shirts, jeans, and khakis—just pared down to their sizes.  I believe boys, at least until they are out of diapers, need clothing that suits their needs and interests.

MK: Amen, sister!
Sandy: I started Room to Romp 2 years ago to provide clothes for boys that reflect their world through hand sewn appliques and that make dressing as easy as possible.  Rompers are perfect for little ones still in diapers. There is no waistband making movement more comfortable and allowing extra room for big bellies and diapers. My pants have elastic waistbands which are less restrictive than a buttoned waistband and zipper, and the pants make dressing easy with a pull up or down as your little guy learns to dress himself. I am most proud of the quality of my clothing.

Sandy: In today’s economy people want the most from every penny spent.  I want my customers to feel like they have invested well when they buy from RtR.  I use high quality, all natural fabrics, all appliques are free-hand sewn using a basic sewing machine and hand knotted to keep them from coming loose, all rompers are fully lined with the lining tacked down to keep it in place, the elastic in the bottoms is also tacked down to prevent it from twisting, and all buttons are hand-stitched.  My clothing is intended to serve more than one child through hand-me-downs or consignment re-sale.

MK: OK—I think I love you, Sandy for that alone! What is your favorite item in the store right now?

Sandy: My favorite item in my shop at the moment is the long romper (which can also be made in a short romper) in blue stripe ticking fabric with a front denim pocket.  It’s a great example of appropriate clothing for little boys during their baby and toddler years.  It’s simple, long-wearing, has classic styling, can be dressed up or down, and the big colorful buttons make it fun.

MK: I love ’em! If there is one thing I’ve learned, it’s that kids love pockets!

Adorable, no? Be sure to stop by Room to Romp for a lookie look and buy something awesome for your little one that they’ll wear every week this summer! And now as a special offer for Modern Kiddo Readers, Sandy is giving you guys FREE SHIPPING on all your orders! Simply use discount code: MKIDDO Whooo hoo! Thanks so much Sandy!

My Sweet Muffin is an online children’s boutique specializing in unique, modern things for kids. Started five years by the lovely Ms. Shina, My Sweet Muffin sources products from all over the world.
