Meet Henry!

Hello friends, meet this week’s kiddo, who is the cutest little laddie around. His name is Henry. Or “Henry Crumb” as his family calls him. Swoon! What is there not to love about that?

And don’t worry—he has perfect vision, but who couldn’t want to wear pipe cleaner glasses?  That’s some sweet style you got going on there, Henry!

Henry is five and and loves his new cat “Perf” (short for perfume!!!), scootering, Legos, his little bro, chasing chickens, making pancakes and making noise.  Henry has a wacky imagination.  And I have a feeling that imagination involves some rousing renditions of cowboys and Indians.  And using a bow.  Henry—you are one hundred percent all boy, aren’t you?

Henry is really into Yetis at the moment…as in big hairy creatures.

The other day his mama asked him if he could have one wish, what would he wish for and he answered “bigger eyebrows”.  I’m right there with you, Henry.  But dear boy, yours are perfect.  You want proof?  Look below.  Perfect.

Most of the clothes were actually made by his mama, who has her own clothing line in Australia called Crumb, which is full of yummy retro inspired togs for little ones. I’m in heaven.

Henry, you couldn’t be any cuter if you were trying.  Awake or blissfully on the edge of sleep, you are a keeper, dear boy.

Thanks for stopping by, Henry!

PS:  Do *you* have a stylish kiddo you’d like to show off? Send ‘em our way! You can find submission details here. We love all kinds of kiddos….vintage and thrift loving liddles, modern grooviness tots and simply sweet, down-to-earth kiddos.

Meet Eliza!

We have a real little sugar snap here today named Eliza. A spitfire two year old who has quite some delightful style to go along with her sweet personality.

Her style is a perfect mix of vintage finds, snappy pieces as  well as quite a few lovely items handmade by Mama, like this merry little friend made without a pattern no less!

Eliza loves  good red and thinks primary colors (sorry, pink) are grand additions to her closet. Which usually leads to great kiddo style! And when in doubt, add a  Cookie Monster.  Great fashion advice, Eliza!

(Vintage jacket)

Eliza is a fairly opinionated new inductee to the Terrible Twos Club, and has an inclination toward the dramatic—which she comes by honestly, says her Mama. Just like all fashion geniuses!

  • Upper left: Red Sweater – vintage Etsy, lishyloo; legwarmers – KnottyBabyLegs; Shorty Overalls – lishyloo; striped socks – SF Giants
  • Upper right: Monkey Sweater – dress by Hannah, our babysitter; legwarmers from KnottyBabyLegs; Monkey to the Moon sweater – Mini-Rotation, from zulily
  • Lower left: vintage HealthTex combo
  • Lower right: dress made by Mama

Jody also had this to say about her little girl:

“Miss Eliza adores Disney movies of all ilk, as well as Kiki’s Delivery Service and all things Curious George. (Given the chance will describe the full plot and characters as best as her limited language abilities allow!) She also loooves Star Wars, no joke; she “reads” the scrolling words at the beginning and goes on and on about Chewy, the Princess, and the robots!”

We were curious what her favorite toys were, and mama informed us:

“Eliza’s favorite toys are her Playskool Holiday Inn, a nude Justin Timberlake marionette (!!), and her little Wubbanub monkeys and bear. During booktime, her current top picks are Madeline, Sesame Street ABCs, Tootles the Train and occasionally Olivia—although all of those choices might be yesterday’s news by this evening! On outings, she enjoys pressing the auto-door button on every store we pass and sitting on every stoop, chin in her hand, like Jackie Coogan in The Kid.”

This little miss is also fond of yogurt and granola, granola and yogurt, dry granola….and sometimes yogurt. Did we mention she likes yogurt? All of that said, her very favorite thing in the world is her baby sister, Gillian, who adores her in equal measure, and she never misses a chance to make the baby giggle like a maniac.

Awww! What a sweetie!

(Vintage dress)

Aww, you are such a cutie, Eliza. Especially in your aunties’s vintage Polly Flinder’s dress. So sweet!

Meet Finn a.k.a. BATBOY!

Oh my word!  I’m kinda head over heels for this week’s cutie!  Meet Finn, a super fun little guy who hails from Pittsburgh, PA.  He’s five years old and clearly a bundle of fun.

But you may know him by his other persona…

So that outfit was for a character named “Bat Boy” that FINN invented, theme song and all!

Finn’s Bat Boy outfit were old winter Halloween Jammie’s from Target that he outgrew! He wanted to wear them (it was like 100 degrees outside!) so his resourceful Mama cut the legs and sleeves off! And of course he wears them with boots.  He is a boot kid year round! Cowboy, motorcycle! Just like his Mama.

I have such a weakness for kiddos that wear costumes year round. Sigh!  So, of course, I ADORE Finn!  Checkout his spooky pajamas!

Finn is clearly a creative little soul and inherited his wonderful trait from his parents who are both artists. Daddy is atattoo artist/painter/filmmaker and Mama is a sculptor/art director/make-up artist/Operations Manager of a mask making studio, providing Finn with many opportunities to express himself. His favorite ways to do so are through wardrobe,make-up,and dance! This kid never stops!

Following in his parent’s footsteps, Finn is also a painter! He had his first solo art show this past summer titled “Cyclops Werewolf” (2 of his favorite subjects!) He nearly sold out the show!

Like most artists, Finn loves color. Today his favorite color is red, but who know tomorrow!  He LOVES vegetarian sushi and one of his favorite past times is reading–especially if it is about monsters or rhymes.  His favorite book right now is Frankenstein Takes the Cake by Adam Rex!

Thanks for sharing him with us, Eanna!

Meet RC, Our Weekly Kiddo!

Hi hi friends! After a brief hiatus, we are pleased to come back to you with a whole slew of awesome and stylish kiddos. This week I have a super sweet little lady to share with you who is quite the cutie patootie. Friends, meet the lovely RC!

She is a gorgeous little lady with a grand style that is all her own. A nice mix of spunky, girlie and giggly goodness.

Hello, orange polka dot skirt! This girl’s got mad style.

I love that sweet flower necklace. Kids do love a good necklace, doncha think?

Go, RC! Rocking the tutu skirt with the trike!

RC is two years old and a total girlie girl.  We spoke with her mama, the lovely lady behind the blog, Mom Daughter Style, who told us that at an early age, RC tried on her mama’s shoes and started to walk in them. Miss RC would also say “mine!” when she got ahold of her mama’s stylish purses. It starts young, doesn’t it??

Little RC loves to eat and watch her fave shoes like Sesame Street and Yo Gabba Gabba. She just started going to day care and she took to it like a duck to water. Her mama tells us that she  enjoys going to the park and playgrounds and is always friendly with other kids.

Do you have a cute and stylish kiddo you’d like to share with our readers? You can read more over here and then email dottie [at] modernkiddo.com.

Meet Zelda, Our Weekly Kiddo!!

Hi hi friends! Happy snappy Friday! Miss Dottie here. And I’ve got a charming little lady today, Miss Zelda.  Now, I am deelighted to say that I know this little love bug personally and she’s one of my favorite kiddos EVER!  She’s such a kick in the pants, just like her mom, Melinda, who I used to be in a comedy troupe with back in the day. Now Melinda writes funny stuff on her own blog Easy Rider.  And of course Miss Z has provided quite a bit of hilarious writing fodder.

And blog cuteness! Like this!

Melinda summarized Zelda’s fashion sense:

Zelda’s unique, SF and Disney cultivated style that is part Peg Bundy, part Punky Brewster and part Princess Peach. She is the queen of layering and pairs shorts or tutus with tights and leggings, long sleeves with short sleeves and bolero jackets and has been known to wear her old Babylegs as arm warmers. All her clothes are a combo of hand-me downs, dress-up clothes, Gap, Target and Hanna Andersson, with the occasional Great-grandma creation thrown in.

In other words, kiddo fashion perfection!

Fairy wings and rainboots are the perfect combo.

I love a girl who can rock a princess costume, don’t you? I think the different pony tail holders accent your ensemble beautifully, my lady!

I love how she uses her babylegs as arm warmers. Even at the age of five she knows the importance of layering in SF. The plaid and floral combo is pure Harujuku!

Did I mention Zelda is a fan of stripes? And would you look at those shoes?

Being so fabulous is tiring!

Melinda wrote the following about her little lass:

Zelda is camera shy, but stage ready and will do a jazz run all over that thing. Despite her name, her favorite princess is Peach and can kick your butt at Mario Kart. She is a pretty, pretty pink princess and a dancing queen who can already spot the difference between Ballet, Contemporary, Hip-Hop and Jazz. She has a green thumb and loves to plant seeds and water her window-sill garden. She knows the names of more plants than I do.

She thinks all boys are icky except for her boyfriend and her daddy–who is not wild about this whole boyfriend thing. Her favorite singer is Britney Spears, her favorite TV show is Dancing with the Stars and her favorite dancer is Kirstie Alley.

She is a budding comedian who isn’t afraid to go blue and her favorite go-to punchlines all include pee, poop, and the smelling of stinky butts. She will moon you if given the opportunity. Besides Mom, her best friend is a big fat, geriatric cat named Ralph who is kept alive, and fat, with her constant care and sheer will.

Thanks for sharing you little snapper, Melinda!
