Meet the Peach! Our Little Birthday

If you’re a regular reader then you undoubtedly have heard our Miss Dottie mention a certain little “Peach” in many of her posts. Who is this mysterious little munchkin? Well I’m thrilled to bits to present to Dottie’s little girl, the most lovely and adorable Georgia! This little love bug is turning a grand One Year Old!

Little Miss Georgia is a total doll. This clever girl plays a mean game of peekaboo and has exceptional manners for one so young! Not only is she an expert giggler and smiler, she understands that it’s not polite to wake her parents before 6am. Dottie says if she wakes up early, she can hear Georgia singing and cooing quietly to herself in her crib—but after 6:00am all bets are off and this little lady wants to start her day in style! Speaking of style….on with the show!

+ Vintage buttercup yellow dressie
+ Saucy smile, from her mama!

BONUS ROUND! Just ’cause she’s a such sweetie pie!!

Tee hee! That last one is a killer….pure stink town, as Dottie would say!!

Little Miss Georgia has an ever-expanding palette. While she loves the usual suspects, she also delights in things like zucchini and basil with millet. Ooh lala! She’s also crazy for pears. Her mommy says:

“Miss Peach has a big ole crush on our cat, Minnow, whom she likes to greet with a hiss every time she’s sees her. As that is how Minnow greets her, the Peach thinks it is only polite to follow suit! She enjoys feeding herself with a spoon (or attempting to) and is fascinated by people brushing their teeth. She is not a fan of vacuums, cauliflower, swaddling or the letter Z.”

Oh little peachie, but we are a big fan of YOU! Happy birthday beautiful girl!
xoxo

And in honor of your birthday, a few fun vintage cards just for YOU!

HAPPPPPY BIRTHDAY LITTLE PEACH!

Sugarcoat It Studios–Modern Cakes

I must admit that on the eve of the Peach’s first birthday, I am rather wracked with guilt.

I’m not throwing her a birthday party.

Partly because I just can’t deal with throwing a party. Some people are effortless party throwers.  Other people start to hyperventilate the moment the invites go out and have several nervous breakdowns until the event just thinking about gift bags, entertainment for kids from age 13 to 3 months and how will they be able to blow up 250 balloons in 15 minutes and vacuum the cat and UGGGGHHHH!

Excuse me while I find a paper bag to breath into…

When the Peach is the lofty age of 12 or so and starts asking about her first birthday, I am fully prepared to lie and tell her we had a big blowout involving dancing bears, handmade glitter play dough and Lady Gaga.  I’m sure a couple of hours on Photoshop could produce some sweet fake photos of this event as “proof”. You’ll stand behind me, right? Right?

But the one thing she will have is a proper cake.

Don’t get me wrong. I love a good cupcake.  The indulgent frosting. It’s demitasse serving size.  The snuggy comforting taste of it.  It is like holding a bit of one’s childhood in the palm of your hand.

But sometimes you need to break out the big guns and get a cake.

A cake that says: “IT’S MAH BABY’S BIRTHDAY, GOSH DARN IT AND I LOVE HER/HIM SOMETHING FIERCE, PEOPLE!”

And if you need that kind of cake, then let me introduce you to Krista Markell and Sugarcoat it Studios.

Krista has my heart. You see, she did the extraordinary. She ditched her full-time fancypants corporate gig to follow her passion. And her passion was cakes. I gotta admit with cakes as gorgeous as this, well,…I’m happy she quit her job.

You see what I mean?

These cakes are bananas. Actually, I’m sure Krista could make a banana cake if you asked! She made me coconut! Mmmm coconut.  She’d even put harajuku girls on it I asked for it, like Kate and Callie did. Yup, Krista is that cool.

Lucky Kent to have a cake this awesome!

This cake KILLS me it is so stunning. And matching invitation from Stolen Plate Press. Krista and Etienne work together often to create matching invites and cakes. I bow to their awesomeness.

This one takes the cake! (Hahaha!!! Who says puns are out of fashion?)

Thank you, Krista!

Beautiful Kid's Photography: Tea + Jam

Taking photos of children is one of the best things in the world. It also happens to be one of the trickiest! If you’ve ever tried to get that perfect snap of your child then you probably know what I’m talking about. They squirm. They giggle. They turn away from the camera. They groan and shield their face from you like you’re a crazed papparazzi, saying, “No more pictures mommy, PLEASE!” (well that’s if they’re named Wolfie and live in my house!) That’s why when I first saw these gorgeous photos by Tea and Jam Photography, the husband and wife team of Kate and Nathan Vale, I was completely smitten. This Melbourne-based couple live with their two adorable daughters, Maya and Pepper and recent addition Alfie (a golden retriever pup!). Kate is impossibly nice and a bit of a bad ass, if you don’t mind me saying so. As if running a highly successful photography business and raising two kids weren’t enough, she is in the middle of launching an exciting new women’s mag called MAEVE. She’s my new hero!

“We are a creative husband and wife team with a passion to look through the eyes of the child. We love to capture small moments that can be treasured for a life time. Though raising children of our own we are able to empathize with the smiles and tears of childhood. With this understanding, our photography often conveys emotion and tells a great story.” — Kate Vale

Is it the vibrant candy colors or the sheer joy of childhood captured on their images that I find so appealing? I’m not sure but I swear you can feel the sun on your face when you look at these photos.

Be on the lookout for a spunky little redhead…that’s their daughter, the lovely Maya!

Thank you Kate for your generosity with sharing these gorgeous photos!

Birthday Party Fun :: Vintage Raggedy Ann Love

I was the only girl in my family. Outnumbered four to one growing up.  My childhood was filled with toilet seats left up, Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em robot fights, a never ending parade of noogies, and more sports stuff than I thought was legally possible to keep outside of professional teams.

But I had my Raggedy Ann.  We went everywhere together.  She was my confidant, my baby, my comfort.  Not a night past without her little yarn head tucked into the crook of my arm at bedtime. She was my stand-in baby girl until I had my own.

And then I did have my own.

I had high hopes that the Peach would immediately connect with Raggedy Ann, but I think it’s too early to tell. Until then, I will just spin my dreams of their future friendship with these gorgeous pictures taken by wonderfully talented Nicole Hill Gerulot of a Raggedy Ann party created by the event planner extraordinaire, Brittany Egbert of One Charming Party.  Be still, my heart!

Just stunning. Eh? Ladies, thank you.

Of course these photos sent me into a Raggedy Ann frenzy on Etsy, where I found these goodies:

These vintage cups would be perfect for tea parties in a few years, don’t you think?

Would it be wrong to make my child iron? Not with this awesome Raggedy iron! It almost makes ironing fun. ALMOST.

And just think of all of sweet pieces of clothing I could make for the Peach with this jolly vintage Raggedy Anne fabric!

Or I could just buy this incredibly cute Raggedy Ann inspired dress.

And my sweet Peach, it’s OK if you don’t love Raggedy like I do. Thanks for trying. Perhaps you’ll acquire a taste for Raggedy Ann when you are the sophisticated age of one. I love you all the more, for just being you, my sweetie Peachy little girl.
