Vintage book shelf :: The Golden Circus.

Alice Provensen began illustrating books with her husband Martin in the mid 1940’s and their style is one of my absolute favorites! I found this little blurby on them that I thought was pretty cool:

The Provensens had remarkably similar experiences before they met. Both of them were born in Chicago, Illinois, and their families moved to California when they were twelve years of age. In California, they graduated from high school and college. Martin worked for the Disney Studio, in the Story Department, from 1937 to 1941. Alice worked with the artists who drew for the Walter Lantz Studio, the creators of Woody Woodpecker. Both studios were in Hollywood. They didn’t meet until 1943, when Martin, who was now in the Navy, was assigned to the Walter Lantz Studio to help create instructional films for the military. Eventually the couple moved to New York City, where friend and artist Gustaf Tenggren helped them get their first picture book illustration assignment. That first book was The Fireside Book of Folk Songs. They bought a farm in upstate New York, and their book A Year at Maple Hill Farm became an instant classic. They illustrated several Golden Books, among them The Color Kittens and Animal Farm.  — The Children’s Literature Network

What a neat couple huh! This book has such amazing illustrations. I think you’ll love Alice and Martin as much as I do!

New Year’s Resolution :: Getting Organized with Pinterest

Via: Real Simple

It’s the little things.  The bits of organization that can supposedly save you time. And all that time adds up. It is not just time however, think of all the money you can save too.  People supposedly spend hundreds of dollars re-buying items they can’t find.  And of course things looks so much prettier organized too.

I spent some time on Pinterest, looking for inspiration to get me started on my junk drawer. Here are some of my favorites.

What a wonderful idea—finding extra space and organization in the garage—on the ceiling!

How about this wonderful linen closet. I’ve been meaning to re-organize mine for the past six months.  Perhaps this will give me the necessary nudge.

This is going to make me drive to the nearest craft store searching for grommets! Kinda fabulous, if you ask me…

Oh, and this dreamy closet. How very clever, yes?

I don’t know if I could ever eat enough mints to be able to do this genius junk drawer re-organization.  Oh and a label-maker.  Is it wrong to crave a label-maker as much as I’m craving a label-maker right now?

Oh, but this… this gets my heart going pitter pat!

But perhaps I should start small.  Pretty and small. And I have such a thing of canning jars too.

Do you have any reorganization plans for 2012?

The Vintage Shoe Shoppe

I love wearing vintage shoes. The colors and styles, as with the clothing, tend to be SO unique. My favorites are mid-heel shoes from the 1960s. I feel like in this day and age I have to either wear SKY HIGH platforms/heels or flat-as-a-pancakes flats. When I was in London a few years ago, I noticed they had SO many more options for mid-heel shoes (I’m guessing because they walk more?). Options, people. Gimme options! Anyway, many of you have asked me about the vintage shoes I wear, so I thought it would be fun to pull some sassy shoes for you guys. I found a range of sizes—although please note vintage shoes (as with clothing) run small and narrow. Size up unless you have a very dainty foot. I often buy larger sizes and add a cushy insole. OK, on with today’s selections!

1. These adorable shoes are a size 7/8 and would look brilliant with colored tights OR basic blacks. You KNOW you need them.

Buy them here.

2. For those of you who like to lounge about the house in style, these 6/6.5 slippers are just the thing! I love them. Slippers tend to run true to size, as they are soft and less structured.

Buy them here.

3. These awesome sandals are a metallic silver but have a super comfy cool heel. AND they are a generous size 9/10. Now you can look adorable and walk for hours.

Buy them here.

4. These are a size 7/8 and I just love the color combo of that contrast buckle. How cute would they be with some dark, cuffed jeans?

Buy them here, Pilgrim.

5. OH man, I looooove these. A size 7/7.5 so I might snap ’em up if you don’t! I love a good slingback—I find them much more forgiving (since many vintage shoes run rather narrow). These would look elegant as can be dressed up, but honestly I think they would be just as smart with black jeans.

Buy them here.

6. Finally, these little size 6 beauties look just like princess slippers. Will they fit your footsie, Cinderella?

Buy them here.

If you buy them (or find another pair!) be sure to let me know. Oh, and I loved these red and blue mod heels….but that little lawn gargoyle kind of ruined the mood I was trying to create. Heh.

I might be sick, but I still love the vintage!

Oof–what a weekend!  I pretty much spent it in bed. Everyone in my family is sick STILL! We went through two boxes of tissues and every handkerchief in the house.  In fact I slept almost all of Saturday, which NEVER happens.  Eric has been a trouper looking after the Peach while’ I’ve been knocked out with this nasty cold. But crossing my fingers that we’ll be all be better soon.  But don’t worry, friends, of course I found some goodies to share with you!  Oh and what goodies they are!

I know moccasins are popular right now. And who could blame them when they are this cute?  From Etsy seller, In With the Old.

This dress is everything wonderful in the world.  Orange dotty goodness, the ric rac, the little butterflies. Oh, be still my heart! From Etsy seller, Pinkleberry!

Two, four, six, eight–this little uniform is super great! From Etsy seller, Dahlia Daffodil.

This vest is the best.  Can’t you just see this vest with some jeans, a colored t-shirt and some vans?  Oh! And a little hat! Perfection!  From Etsy seller, Vintage Aga.

Speaking of hats—here’s a gem of one. I love the little feather on the side. From Etsy seller, the marvelous Ms. Tips!

I have a weakness for gingham and this little pink gingham jacket is killing me. J’adore! From Etsy seller, Twitch Tots!

I bought the Peach a great Fisher Price camera, but I’ve never seen one like this! So great! From Etsy seller, Fibbie.

Whoa. This vintage seventies shirt is divine. That avocado color is perfection. From Etsy seller, Odelette!

AWWW YEAH!  Check out these sweet wheels!  Want want want want want.  From awesome Etsy seller, 1 Sweet Dream Vintage.

This is for you, Alix. A nice big vintage head! It even comes with the original box.  Greg, buy it for her now and save it for her birthday. From Etsy seller, Sweet Shop Vintage.

Happy Monday, friends!

7. KING MIDAS WOULD APPROVE.

8. BUT WHAT ABOUT THAT COUCH??

There’s been a lot of chatter about this insane Kate Spade apartment that is now for rent (it belonged to Pamela Bell, one of the original four partners and for $18,500/mo it can be yours too). The place is gorgeous, but I’m most transfixed by the insane vintage couch. She had it covered in muslin and then invited her young daughters class to come over and draw all over it. AMAZING.

9. I SEE LONDON.

Hauntingly pretty images of a nearly empty London, early Christmas morning. See more here.
