Mod About You, Baby! 60s Inspired Kiddos.

We at Modern Kiddo love vintage inspired goodies…and if you’re a regular reader then you know that the sixties are one of my favorite decades to play around with. Let’s get inspired by the graphic coolness of that mod mod world!

Presenting a future shoe-gazer, indie superstar or little scooter boy….from fun lovin’ Etsy peeps Charlie and Sarah!

And speaking of  scooters—check out this adorable ride-along learner bike from kiddi moto. You’re kid will be the heppest cat on the block rockin’ this Vespa! Beatle boots not recommended while riding (didn’t have time to source some Carnaby style band-aids, doncha know….).

You know how I’m head over heels in love with this dressie from FaithWorks4U and I just had to bring it back for another go-go. Heh. Sorry. Couldn’t resist.

This mod little treeclimber is sportin’ a shirt from Etsy sellers babybolt. I just love the little playful touch of gingham. There’s one for boys….

…and one for girls!

San Francisco cutie tartlette makes sweet dressies for little girls, but this Mondrian-inspired mini is simply TOP of the POPS! Your little Twiggy will be the hit of the playground.

I love the bold graphics on these Karen Hilton Designs pillows. God Save the Queen! (and my bank account….)

This adorable Q-Star bib will only run ya 15 clams and is made of Japanese cotton linen. Fancy!

I love this print from Sugar and Cream—how cute would this be in a little nursery? The kitty helmet is killing me, but the message is just also a sweet little reminder.

This little dressie from Etsy sellter AlltheNumbers is not only cute as all get out, it’s extremely clever too! Would you believe it had a former life as a man’s button-up shirt? Mmm hmm. So now it gets to skip a day at the office and can go rollerskating instead. Sweet!

Polka dots and Vespas? This little romper is like Dottie and my secret love child! JoeyandAlthea are responsible for this little snippet of cute.

Listen, you’re never too young to appreciate a little 60s fun! This rosey-cheeked cutie easily proves my point! Grab yours from babybolt. Um, the onesie, not the baby.

So what are you waiting for? Ready…..steady….GO!

Vintage Kiddo Monday: Retro Roundup

Happy Monday everyone! It’s the start of another week and I think it’s going to be a good one. I’m a little sad the Olympics is over—Wolfie and I were having such a great time watching all the events. I’ll miss my lil hunka medal winning hottness, Apolo Ohno and the gorgeous figure skating that happened (yes I’m a stereo typical girl….but I also loved the snowboarding. Shredding balances out sequins, right??). This week we have a rather darling little vintage round up. I think you’ll really like some of these cute finds!

OK, first up we have this amazing corduroy  jumpsuit with red floral trim and a little umbrella-ella-ella detail. They just don’t make ’em like this anymore friends. Oh, and if you ever have any special size requests, lemme know!

Meet Griffin! Our

Guess what time it is friends? Yep, another adorable kiddo is rounding out our week! Meet Griffin, an impossibly sweet little four year old from Northern California. This outdoorsy little lad is really just as cute as can be, don’t you agree? We love that his style is colorful and totally adorable yet clearly keeps him comfy whether he’s sitting inside reading a book or hiking with his parents in the redwoods. Presenting: GRIFFIN!

1. Western snap shirt, Old Navy
2. Swim trunks, Baby Gap

1. Tee from Mitchell’s Ice Cream in Cleveland, OH
2. Twill Roll-Up Pants, Old Navy
3. Shoes, Yeller Crocs

1. Beatles tee, Target
2. Gray Twill Roll Up pants, Old Navy
3. Funky bike helmet, Giro Me2 Chicks

1. Adarrrrrrrable Pirate Costume, Old Navy matey!

Unlike my beloved child, little Griffin is a world class eater. He not only loves to help his mommy Toria in the kitchen, he loves to nibble on his daddy’s famous mac n’ cheese, spaghetti & meatballs, cheesy eggy omelets, burritos, papusas, sushi, odwalla juice, bagels with lox, cream cheese sandwiches and MORE! (I’m dying’ kiddo….can you give Wolfie a lesson in SUSHI please??) His favorite color is green, he loves the Beatles and he’s obsessed with his engineer overalls and rain boots. Griffin also likes anything with wheels but especially adores story time. Among his favorite books: Trashy Town, The Incredible Book-Eating Boy, The Giant Jam Sandwich, The Runaway Dinner, Arnie the Donut. I think its safe to say that Griffin may grow up to be a famous food critic or star of Top Chef 2030. His mama says, “Griffin is a big sweetie. He loves the playground, bouncy houses, running around playing tag, farting and then telling you about it!” (my kinda kid….toot toot!) Hurray for Griffin!!! You rock little dude!

Retro Modern :: Cape Crusaders

What can I say? Capes rock. Remember when they were back in style for like a millisecond a couple of winters ago? Man, I should have bought one then—I don’t know why I waited. But I will not make that mistake for the Peach.  In my mind, capes make complete sense for little girls.  They are not as fussy as proper coats but have oodles of swish and sass which I think is a prerequisite for all things kid!  Plus capes are just more fun than coats.

Fortunately Etsy is awash with awesome capes like these from Etsy seller,  Katie Patatey who blew my mind with this demin cape with a vintage bit of cloth with a bird on it. Katie, you are killing with all this cuteness!

ASboutique is selling this gorgeous handmade cape with a ruffle neckline and a straw ticking lining.

I love upcycled wool projects and Handmade Charlotte’s clever use of a vintage mohair sweater to create an extra snuggly and extra gorgeous detailed collar for this this brown corduroy cape won me over.

Clearly I’m in a ruffly mood, because I can’t get enough of this ruffle cape in purple wool herringbone from Red Possum It is so cute that I think she should make this in a mommy size (hint hint, Red Possum…I’m just sayin’…)

I was about to leave Etsy, but then I saw this Valentine Heart Cape made of wool felt from brand spanking new Etsy seller, Heartfelt4Kids and I nearly plotzed, it is so adorable. I need to look away or it will steal my soul–IT IS THAT BEWITCHING!

Capes are also one of those things that seem very sewable.  And if you are one of those people that think capes are sewable, would you please make me one with this divine vintage cape pattern from Mom’s Patterns?  This particular pattern is available in two sizes–6 and 8 at Mom’s Pattern Website.

Heck, I wouldn’t mind if you made me the dress too! Man, that is cute! Just imagine making the dress and cape lining match? Ooohhh…..  Dream a little dream!
