Meet Maya! Our Weekly Kiddo

Greetings from Park City, Utah my friends. Wait, what….Utah?? Yup, Dottie and I have hit the road where we are at the fabulous EVO Evolution of Women in Social Media conference. Dottie and I are actually both speaking (on two different panels) and we are so thrilled to be here. Park City is pretty gorgeous and the weather is perfectamundo…..take THAT freezing cold San Francisco summer!! We are having a blast (tons of amazing and inspiring people here) and we’ll give ya a full report on Monday. But today is Friday and that means it’s WEEKLY KIDDO time!

This week we have a special little girl allllll the way from Australia. In fact, she kind of resembles our little Modern Kiddo logo a bit.  Her mum is the wildly talented Kate Vale, of Tea and Jam photography (seriously folks, pop over to their blog and take a look at these pictures!). Little Miss Maya is one of those kids who not only has amazing style but has a colossal personality that just leaps off the page. Her mama tells us that she loves animals, is wildly creative and is a budding musician (it’s true…I’ve seen video of her composing the best New Wave inspired tune on her wee little keyboard!). From her luscious mane of red hair to her mega-watt grin, Maya is truly fabulous. Let’s take a look at the magnificent MAYA and her ecclectic style!

I love this look so much…hot pink tutu with wellies and a big ol’ flower on her lapel? My kinda gal!

Such a sweetheart. I love the mix of stripes with florals.

How cute is this child?? I’m telling you I just want to spend the day with her giggling and making up songs. Thank you so much Kate for sharing this gorgeously spunky girl with us!

As a side note, Kate is the editor of the beautiful new magazine MAEVE, that is taking the blogsphere by storm! If you haven’t read it, YOU MUST! Not only is it gorgeous, but (ahem) I have an article in the first issue! Whoo hoo! It was a huge honor—check out the section “Me and My Bestie” and read about how Dottie and I met. The next issue of MAEVE is in the works, so be sure to subscribe. You can do so on their blog right here.

Meet Sayer! Our Weekly Kiddo.

Believe it or not, I’ve never actually met most of the Weekly Kiddos we feature. I think I’ve met, hmmmm, two? Yup. Wolfie and Georgia! (My little sweetie and Dottie’s adorable girlie.) But that’s what makes this feature so much fun—the never ending stream of crazy cute kiddos that appear in my In Box. This week’s lil man is especially fun for me because he belongs to a sweet new bloggie friend. I “met” Kristin back when we were launching Modern Kiddo. Dottie and I were smitten with her shop, klt:works and thought she was sooo talented. As we began to chat I discovered she was also totally sweet, cool and fun AND she was a mama! Her little guy is an awesome little two and half year old named Sayer and he’s our Weekly Kiddo! Lemme tell ya he’s a cutie:

I love this red and white stripey shirt with blue jeans. From our pals at Polarn O. Pyret.

I love that groovy graphic tee Sayer’s sportin’! Those little buses are kee-yoot! It’s also from Polarn O. Pyret!

Sayer loungin’ on all of mama’s rad vintage fabrics.  (Dottie is drooling over them, to be sure! hee)
The grey thermal is from Alternative Apparel.

Look WHOO WHOO is wearing a charming klt:works owl tee designed by his mama??

This Fore! Axel & Hudson fedora is killing me…..the littlest minstrel with his ukulele! The groovy button up shirt is from Old Navy.

I love Sayer’s caps….totally adorable! This pub cap is from Knuckleheads. (The kitty tee is klt:works, of course!)

Hee hee. Nooooooo Sayer isn’t named for Leo Sayer…..he’s named after artist/photographer Richard Sayer (a good family friend!) but this picture cracked me up!

So Mr. Sayer is a well rounded cutie. He loves music, especially Dan Zanes, Louis Armstrong and lots of Yo Gabba Gabba hits (like Biz Markie, Cornelius and the Aquabats). He’s gotten quite good at the harmonica and also fiddles around on the drums, guitar, and tambourine! Like all red-blooded lads, Sayer is a lover of trains (THOMAS!) and has a penchant for fire engines and garbage trucks.

His mama tells us that Sayer is a big cuddle bug and he loooves to work with her in the studio, where he is an excellent advisor and helper when it comes to organizing her  thread. When snack time rolls around he loves smoothies, Jamba Juice (carrot and orange….hey Sayer, that’s one of my faves too!), yogurt & granola, green grapes and applesauce. Wolfie was extremely pleased to hear Sayer loves tortilla chips and “everything” bagels with cream cheese! He also just got a baby skateboard (RAD!) and loves it—watching the instructional video about 25 times. Hee. Aw yes, safety before shredding, Sayer. I approve! Kristin, thank you so much for sharing this adorable lil man with us!

Meet Mathilda! Our Weekly Kiddo.

This week we have a special little sweetie from Springfield, Missouri! Her mama is the stylish and creative Amy who clearly has an appreciation for the days of yesterday—she gave her the awesomely, old-timey name Mathilda, which is just about the cutest thing ever! Little Miss Mathilda has four siblings, including two older sisters, who provide plenty of sassy hand-me-downs for this stylish little gal. Her fun wardrobe is made up of lots of vintage and thrift-store treasures with, of course, the occasional new item thrown in for good measure! When you see how cute she is, you’ll die. Let the Walzing Mathilda begin!

CUTE! Love the moccasin booties and adorable overalls!

Tee hee. A little bit dirndl chic, a little bit Red Riding Hood and a whole lotta CUTE.

The long stripey legwarmer knee socks make this outfit adorable.

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner!!! Tutu and vintage roller skates? Hellllo. This is SO Mathilda’s album cover in about 10 years.

Chillin’ with her best girls….I love her red dress and look at that smile!

This is the most adorable rain combo. The sweet buttercup yellow vintage dressie and then those totally utilitarian wellies is AWESOME.

Mathilda is one of those awesome little hybrid girls—she loves fun girlie things like roller skating and playing dress-up, but she also likes to climb trees and hang out with her four urban chickens. CHICKENS??? WOW!  I love it!  The lovely Mathilda has a sweet kitty cat named Casper that she looves and her mama says she charms the neighbors with daily visits to cheer them up! I am pretty taken with this little lady’s style—don’t you think she’s the bees knees?? Amy, thanks for sharing your gorgeous girlie with us!

Yee haw, Weekly Kiddo is double the fun!

So usually I do a little write up about our sweet Weekly Kiddo, but since we have TWO this week, i wanted to make sure they each got their time in the spotlight. I asked their awesome mama Kristen to give me some fun tidbits about these two superstars—so take a gander:

10 things about calder

1. calder is a VERY sweet boy with HUGE brown eyes and a bright smile!
2. he often pretends to be a dinosaur we’ve named ‘caldersaurus rex’ that likes to give hugs and kisses…oh, and ROARRRR.
3. he won’t try meat, and can tell when ANY meat products are in a recipe…he won’t even touch a piece of cheese pizza that was next to a piece with meat:)
4. calder loves fish, and helps us take care of our salt water fish aquarium.
5. calder spends HOURS making ‘animal parades’ with his animal figurines…lining them up…sometimes stretching the length of the house
6. the boy also loves bugs and will FREAK out is someone accidentally steps on an ant hill
7. calder food groups CHEESE, YOUGURT, GRANOLA, and FRUIT
8. calder loves being outside, and riding his balance bike around the block to ‘visit’ our neighborhood fire station
9. he LOVES hats, and insists on choosing the right one each day!
10. calder was named after the artist ALEXANDER CALDER

10 things about olive
1. olive is our snickerdoodle, she is sassy, and fun.
2. olive has been picking out her own clothes since she was 14 months old…her style is VERY funky, extremely colorful and sometimes mismatched!
3. olive loves art, and will often work on the same piece of art for an hour or more
4. olive takes her babies (gracie and dot) EVERYWHERE with her
5. olive likes to pretend she’s a dino we’ve named OLIVE RAPTOR that has an ear piercing shriekkkkk
6. while olive shares the love for cheese and yogurt with calder, MEAT has always been her favorite.
7. olive once told a stranger at an art opening her name was ‘avocado’
8. olive has always loved to dance, and make up silly songs.
9. olive is a HUGE fan of carousels
10 olive’s middle name is ‘sanctuario’ named after sanctuario de chimayo in Chimayo, NM

HOW CUTE ARE THESE LIL TWINS??? I love sweet Calder the awesome vegetarian animal lover and spunky Olive “Avocado” the art lover. I think it’s so excellent that their parents take them to museums and art openings. I can’t wait to see these little twin stars in a couple of years. Something tells me they’ll just keep getting cuter and even more creative! Thanks Kristen for sharing these two special kiddos with us!

Yes. My girl Bea is holding a banjo. How cute is she?? Little Honey Bea loves animals but us especially fond of panda bears. She is a nature girl at heart and loves the grass, the sun, the beach and balloons. (YAY for balloons!) Her cool mama Natalie tells us that when meal time rolls around, she really digs Miso soup and pickles, which is just about the coolest and most random combo ever. Go Beatrice! This little sweetie loves story time and her favorite book is Ferdinand the Bull.  Seeing her with her banjo and ukulele, it won’t come as a surprise that she is crazy about music and she loooves to dance!! Her favorite song is Yellow Submarine but she falls asleep listening to Beach House. Needless to say, she’s a super rad kid. Hip hip hooray for Little Miss Bea!

Have an awesome weekend my friends. Dottie and I are taking Monday off to enjoy Memorial Day with our families, but we’ll be seeing ya bright eyed and bushy tailed on Tuesday!
